Well, “maybe” certainly stakes out a bold position.

Will you at least send “Hair” a terse memo, or is bitching at me all you’re willing to do?

Hey, don’t get angry, I like sarcasm too. I’ve already NOT voted for the guy, perhaps you should send the memo.

Really, the best we got??? hehehe, okey dokey...

Tell me what you think of that little perk he introduced called SB905???

I’m sure that if a coalition of like minded Dan Patrick’s were in the Texas Senate that we would never see them put themselves before the constituency in such an idiotic bill, that is now law...

It takes a lot more than just words on the floor in Austin, and on their own radio show to make one’s self a Conservative...You have to live and lead by example, and that is something seriously lacking in that individual...

I know him personally, thats not just name dropping, or being something that I am not, I am very dissapointed in his and many others performance in the last two legislative sessions, and there are a lot of people like me who they know will let them know it...

If in your opinion he is the “best we got”...Hmmmmmm, I have to wonder in that entire Senatorial District that could be a better, principled representative than him???

Private assurances or not...That is not the way to build a coalition...If the coalition he had was privately coerced politically, then there was NO coalition or votes there to begin with...If you cannot be open about your intentions and spend all your time developing private assurances and committments, then how strong is that coalition??? We have a prime example here of how that doesn’t work...

I don’t know where you got the information about things going on out in the hallways, I would honestly like to know who told you that...And the deflective nature of him stating the the Lt. Gov. torpedoed this, is not a sign of my support for Dewhurst in the slightest...

You are not going to be able to hold Dan’s water if you can only defend him this way, you still have to be able to ask the hard questions, to him, and other elected officials, even the ones you like and agree with, to keep them on their toes...Thats what they get paid the big bucks for (sarcasm)...And it is our civic duty to do so, with no hesitation or concern for how poorly they may come back at you...

Remember, they work for US...And they are accountable to us...

I have very good and close friends that I work with very closely, every two years to get things done...And when they screw up, they hear about it...I also go out of my way to compliment them when they do good things as well, and at the end of the day we are still good friends and nieghbors...

This whole TSA thing would have been a real political boom for this state, regardless of the reaction of the Federal government...And our representative blinked...

How utterly cowardly (politically) of them to do so...Regardless if we were right or wrong in introducing this bill...

Tell ya what, I'll send my governor Moonbeam a letter begging for some state protection from TSA goons, if you do the same for your governor Hair.

Deal?

(And I'm not angry, I am deeply disappointed in Texas, I had hoped that unlike California, the place wasn't run by girliemen. *sigh*)

See, I knew we could agree. I just have a habit of returning sarcasm with sarcasm. I’m not just a fan, I’m a practitioner. I too am dissapointed with the Texas GOP. They had a chance to be men. Men of history, like Travis, Crockett, Seguin and Houston, and they spit the bit.

Yeah. They blinked. Bottom line that’s all that really matters. They had a chance to make a real difference, a chance, possibly their only chance, to stop totalitarianism in its tracks.

and they blinked.

May the chains rest lightly on us and our children, may they forget that we were ever free, lest they pine for a single breath of free air.

I know...it is horrible. Never have I thought I’d live to see where the “pioneering” and independent spirit of this country would cower at the first thought of being uncomfortable or slightly inconvenienced. We’re allowing this country and it’s founding principles to be gutted before our very eyes.

Somewhere there is a photo of that picture displayed on a monitor at a TSA checkpoint (perhaps as a “desktop”).

Dewhurst writes Perry to request anti-groping bill, congressional redistricting on special session call

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst wrote a letter to Gov. Rick Perry with a list of bills he would like on the call for the special session. Some -- such as Dewhurst's health care compact and reform bills -- are not a surprise.

But he has also requested for the special session call both congressional redistricting and the bill by Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview) to make groping without probable cause by Transportation Security Administration workers a felony. The Simpson bill died in the waning days of the regular session after senators received a letter from the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas threatening to challenge the bill in court and shut down Texas airports if the bill passes.

We post the entire text of the Dewhurst letter below:

Dear Governor Perry,

Unfortunately, despite the very hard work and determination of the majority of Members of both the House and Senate, the Legislature was unable to pass a number of important bills, including SB 1811 needed to fund the budget, before the deadline of midnight last night.

Still, there is still an outside possibility that SB 1811 could pass the Texas Senate today with the bipartisan support of four-fifths of the Members.  However, if this vote should fail − forcing us into Special Session − I believe that it would be in the best interest of all Texans to start tomorrow and ask you to consider including the following bills in your call:

SB 1811 – Relating to certain state fiscal matters and making necessary appropriations; providing penalties;

SB 8 – Relating to improving the quality and efficiency of health care;

SB 23 – Relating to the administration of reforms, efficiency, cost-saving, fraud prevention, and funding measures for certain health and human services and health benefits programs;

HB 5 – Relating to establishing an Interstate Health Care Compact;

HB 12 – Relating to the enforcement of state and federal laws governing immigration by certain governmental entities;

HB 272
– Relating to the operation of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association and to the resolution of certain disputes concerning claims made to that association;

SB 12/HB400 – Relating to the flexibility of the Board of Trustees of a school district in the management and operation of public schools in the district and theflexibility for public schools to administer primary and secondary education efficiently;

HB 1937 – Relating to prosecution and punishment for the offense of official oppression by the intrusive touching of persons seeking access to public buildings and transportation; and

HB 900/SB 308 – Relating to the composition of the congressional districts for the State of Texas.

As you know, certain Senate procedures – such as the two-thirds tradition – exist to bring Democrats and Republicans together, encouraging Members to work in good faith in order to achieve positive outcomes for the people of Texas.  Given that a small number of Senate Democrats have demonstrated their unwillingness to find consensus on these important legislative items, I can see no other alternative than to operate under a simple majority vote in the Special Session.

I look forward to working with you and Speaker Straus to finish the important business Texans elected us to accomplish.

I’m confused...I thought the Lt Gov torpedoed this one. But now he’s recommending it back on the table?

I’m with Texas on passage!! May have to move there!! Just remember, Kentuckians were the second largest group represented at the Alamo!

I think it's called, politics...

In any case, after cruising the web a while checking on the special session, it looks like the Texas Senate and light governor Dewhurst caught an earful at the end of the regular session about this and a couple other bills. There are plenty of Texans that want our people in Austin to poke a finger in the eye of the federales; just on general principles if nothing else. At this point the governor now picks what bills will end up being "called" during the special session. I think Perry will allow this one to come up becuase of fire in the bellies of those that support it. They and we want the feral government boot off our necks. If not Texas, who???
