"It is a big distraction, because my phone's been ringing off the hook since she announced it," Ted Shpak, legislative director for Rolling Thunder, the group that hosts the annual rally in support of American POWs and veterans, told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell in an interview Friday. Shpak implied that Palin's presence would detract from the event's focus.

"We're not political, this is not a political event," Shpak said. "The way it came out, it sounded like we endorsed her."

Though Palin will reportedly make Sunday's rally the first stop in her bus tour, Shpak was clear that her bus will not ride in the group of motorcycles that will travel from a near the Pentagon, along the National Mall, and back.

Capitalization and spelling, just for a start.

One spelling error. Petty enough?

Edit: I would pay BIG money to watch what happens right after “Gaffer” announces that at The Wall.

Honkin’ BIG money.

“It is supposedly a non political event.”

I’ve never heard a “political speech” given there.

The speakers usually pay homage to the here and gone military, remind people how many have never ‘come home’ and just generally have a lot of former/current military personnel and often, ‘stars’ speak.

I wish I’d been there to hear John Amos give his speech.

Love that guy.

People only see the riders as they’re on their way, waving and smiling to the cheering crowds.

Believe me, once you get to the wall and see the vets there, sadly touching carved names, leaving momentos and crying openly or silently, you don’t have much to smile about any more.

The first time I went, it totally tore me up.

And since this group is a Vet group, they will be watched more closely than other lefty groups.
If I was Sarah, I would think about backing out. Would hate to see anything happen to Rolling Thunder. The IRS is Obamas hammer and they would love to smack a group that even appears to be disloyal.

Yes Sarah Palin is a wonderful Sister in Christ, her daughter fell into temptation as many of us “sinners saved by grace” do from time to time unfortunately.

I wish I was only as Holy as you

That has to be the worst advice I have heard in years.

Uhhhhhhh....a question from the back of the bar. If Rolling Thunder is not political, why does it have a legislative director?

You’re both right. I didn’t state it very well. What I meant was that Palin has a large number of us who like her very much and a large number who dislike her very much.

But those on the other side are mostly deluded, and truly don’t know what it really is they are opposing when they decide they don’t like Palin.
