Rick Perry shoots down Arizona's harsh immigration law
Unlike many of his red-state brethren leaders, Rick Perry is taking a stand against Arizona's latest anti-immigration law. The Texas governor-for-life has issued a statement indicating "concerns with portions of the law passed in Arizona" and believes "it would not be the right direction for Texas."
The Arizona provision makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally and requires local and state law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally.
"For example," explains Perry, "some aspects of the law turn law enforcement officers into immigration officials by requiring them to determine immigration status during any lawful contact with a suspected alien, taking them away from their existing law enforcement duties, which are crucial to keeping citizens safe.
"Texas has a rich history with Mexico, our largest trading partner," he adds, "and we share more than 1,200 miles of border, more than any other state. As the debate on immigration reform intensifies, the focus must remain on border security and the federal government's failure to adequately protect our borders."
Perry isn't the first Texas conservative to back moderate immigration reform: In the 2007 State of the Union, compassionate conservative George W. Bush declared, "We need to uphold the great tradition of the melting pot that welcomes and assimilates new arrivals." Moreover, Perry has supported offering in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants.
Despite his diehard benevolence, Ricky P. is not above slaying a wild coyote with a laser-sighted pistol or giving a glowing introduction to Sarah Palin at her Austin "culture for life" speech.
Perry appears to be McLame LITE!!!!
Perry should look upon the wreckage that is Newt Gingrich’s campaign and decide if he still wants to be shaving the edges and taking the middle position at the expense of other Republicans.
If he, of all people, does not come out with a Pro-Arizona, Pro-Enfocement, Anti-Illegal-Immigration stance, any hope he has of being POTUS will be DOA.
born March 4, 1950 in Paint Creek, TX (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Parents were
Joseph Ray Perry born 1925 in TX
Amelia June Holt born 1928/9 in TX
Both parents were US Citizens at the time of his birth (Meets the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Rick Perry is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.
This needs to be reposted every three or four days until.the Rudy McRomney crowd gives up on their latest flavor.
This, in itself, will do in any run for the Presidency. Rick Perry is history.
Charles Manson is a natural born citizen too.
Where did you come up with your notion that that was the sole requirement?
Can’t get in the way of cheap labor. Cheap for the fortunate who can pass on the costs of hiring lawbreakers on to the domestic taxpayer serfs.
But he did kill a coyote lol.
Thanks for posting:
Now I’m not a Perry guy - would vote for him over Obama but he’s no where near the top of my list of potentials. Having said that, I think the story’s headline is misleading. I was angry at Perry when I was thinking he “shoots down Arizona law” — and then I read the piece, and wasn’t quite so angry.
A little disappointed, but it’s not like he quite went Gingrich on us.
He also fast-tracked a Voter ID law for Texas, just signed this session. At least the illegals won’t be able to vote down here.
In 2001, Rick Perry signed the legislation that gave in-state tuition to illegal aliens in TX, the first state to do so. Rumor had it that he signed it without reading it.
Perry is really a “conservative” Democrat and should not be considered for the Republican nomination for the presidency.
Rick Perry = George Bush III. No thanks.
“He also fast-tracked a Voter ID law for Texas, just signed this session.”
Exactly! Perry is certainly FAR more conservative than Romney. Both Rush and Michael Savage seem VERY positive about his possible entry into the presidential race. I’m watching this too...
LLS
But this illegal immigration policy or lack of is my #1 issue with him & many more Conservative Texans.
I work with many Americans of Mexican decent and they detest what they call 'wetbacks'. ...really surprised me when I heard that term coming from them.

Love this...but....
>>>In 2001, Rick Perry signed the legislation that gave in-state tuition to illegal aliens in TX, the first state to do so.>>>
Hate this. And this is my impression of Perry. Another GWB who will throw us a bone every now and then but does not believe in his gut in liberty and limited government.
Even McCain had to support this law to get re-elected.
And I thought George W Bush was the last conservative democrat.
