You know, that is a silly argument. America has always been generous with taxpayer dollars. Look at what we give to other countries - Iran after their massive earthquake, Haiti (all the time), Pakistan, etc. We rebuilt Japan and Europe and are rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan so they can blow it up again.

Just because we've been doing it doesn't mean it's right, nor that I approve of it.

No more GOVERNMENTAL aid to other countries. If disaster strikes, American private individuals have always been generous. Governmental aid tends to wind up in the pockets of the corrupt.

I'm also against corporate welfare.

If we had an administration that abolished foreign aid, corporate welfare, and regular welfare, then I would be happy.

You take a conservative-sounding handle, but you spend much energy to promote the socialist agenda.

Family & Children only uses 80.1 billion

There are lots of programs stashed in the budget. SSI for $16B, over 2 million households on Section 8, for $18B in the Dept of housing budget. Low income school lunch programs are hidden in another part of the budget. Federal programs giving grants to states to subsidize THEIR programs (hiding the source). Etc, Etc. The real total number when you add federal, state and local are a good chunk of money.

Not only should illicit drug use disqualify a person seeking assistance, but smoking and alcohol use should as well. People seeking welfare OUGHT to be living a very spartan lifestyle, and nothing that suggests wasteful, expensive, health-compromising habits should be allowed.

We will just have to disagree. I think in some instances the government should help people. You don’t. I get it.

It's not that I'm against helping people. I help my family, my friends, and occasionally strangers. It's that government help tends to enable (and breed) pathological behavior among those who become dependent upon government help. Take a good look at the multi-generational welfare class for examples.

This results in problems growing and festering until they finally exceed the government's ability to support. The number of dependents WILL grow without limit until it hits the collapse level. At that point the collapse WILL be ugly.

Nah, you can buy cases of malt liquor with welfare money, or gamble it away, because that’s not like a drug but more like a lifestyle choice and stuff.

Are they gonna put these users in jail when they have a positive test, and are they gonna take their children away? Are they gonna send the cops to find out where they got the drugs and then put the dealer(s) in prison? Are they gonna test all government workers (teachers, social workers, principals, judges, legislators, governor, etc.) on a regular basis in order for them to receive their paychecks? I mean, if we’re gonna test people who have no jobs nor food, then we need to test those who are profiting from being employed by The People as well since workers actually do things that could endanger others.

What is the percentage of welfare recipients who use illegal drugs? What is the percentage of government workers and/or legislators who use illegal drugs? (government workers would include college professors, middle school teachers/administrators/janitors, welfare office workers, etc etc etc)

I admit that I am not a fan of mandatory drug testing as a part of the welfare application process. I just don’t think it will be cost effective. But I do not know a lot about the welfare population as a whole. Maybe we’ll learn something if the courts allow this law to stand.

That said, I was just reading the headlines on Drudge, and I clicked on a link about a group feeding homeless people in Orlando, Florida. It made me think of this park in Tucson that many call “The Hobo Park” because a lot of homeless people hang out there. Anywho, the story also made me think of the Florida governor signing the welfare bill. Here’s the link: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/crime/os-homeless-feedings-arrests-20110601,0,7226362.story
