NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The Chevrolet Volt earned a top five-star rating in thee federal government's new, tougher crash test rating system.
Under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's new rating system, all vehicles are given a single rating of one to five stars encompassing front and side impact safety as well as resistance to rollovers.
The Volt earned four stars for occupant protection in front-end crashes, five stars for side crash protection and five stars for resistance to rolling over.

They tested the 1 that DIDN’T CATCH FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seems like a clear conflict of interest that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is the one handing out the safety rating.
It’s much easier to avoid accidents when you’re not moving.
Easy to do since NO ONE is buying this road apple!
Na actually due to government regulations and conflict of interest they had to limit the scope of the tested to only government produce failures.
Funny I see more of most 70 classics than I see any Chevy volts...
Can we believe anything that this government says? I don’t think so.
It cures gout to!!!
Does anyone give a s**t?
Well hell yes its the safest.... It won’t run. What did the fire department rate it at as a fire hazard ?
My in-laws bought one of these. Right after they installed solar panels. If they do it right, they now drive off the grid.
I said that it’s pretty expensive, and the father in law’s response was (a) it was the same price as a BMW and he didn’t want to help the Germans, and (b) not using gas de-funds the terrorists.
So I actually have a tough time arguing that.
... we are not "funding" the terrorists, Obama is by his "no drill here" policy.
True...They need to test one that doesn’t have a dead battery...
So does my Hyundai!
id bet 90+% of all americans would buy a prius at half price of the volt b4 buying the volt
Volt is wonderful except for being ugly and expensive.
Obammy can shove this gub mint motors can of crap up his ole wazoo.
So does my KIA.
This is no surprise. The less time a vehicle is in operation, the less chance of it being in a crash situation. (My ‘87 Alfa was the safest car on the planet ;-)
I’m safe inside when it explodes and burns houses down?
It funds the uaw doesn't it?
My ‘99 DeVille has a five star crash rating. I want to be cremated when I die, I just don’t want to be cremated to death.
Having hardly any of them on the road makes them very safe.
What’s the accident rate per million customer miles? Will we live long
enough for the vehicle to accumulate a million passenger miles?
Welcome to the old Soviet Union.
They have a very low accident record because they either haven’t been manufactured or assembled yet or they are sitting in a showroom window.
It’s not as if they are selling like i-Pods.
Wunderbama’s car. Of course it got a great rating.
You know, I am reminded of another leader who made a “People’s Car”.
Yes, it’s safe, it’s not selling so they’re all parked on dealers’ lots.
That's excellent. Did they buy a few hundred thousand dollars worth of solar panels, or are they only planning on driving every month or two?
Fantastic they should throw in a pony
2. Even if true, I wouldn't care. I am permanently boycotting GM and Chrysler because of the corruption and massive theft within the bailout. Both companies are dead to me. Forever.
Not just ugly, its FUGLY.
What is with the “horse’s ass” backend of the car? Terrible idea.
