Obama Blames Europe, Japan for US Economic Woes
Reuters via CNBC (yeah. I know.) ^ | 6/5/2011

President Obama is pointing to problems in Japan and Europe as challenges for the U.S. economy, placing some blame on events abroad for a domestic recovery that is showing signs of slowing down.

Government data released Friday showed employers in May hired the fewest number of workers in eight months and U.S. unemployment rose to 9.1 percent, up from 9.0 percent in April.

That bump is a political challenge for the president, whose re-election in 2012 may depend on his ability to convince voters that his economic policies have been successful.

Part of his pitch will include steering attention to outside forces as causes for economic woes at home.

The president did just that in his weekly radio and Internet address, broadcast Saturday, by highlighting "head winds" that are affecting the United States.

"Even though our economy has created more than two million private sector jobs over the past 15 months and continues to grow, we're facing some tough head winds," he said.

"Lately, it's high gas prices, the earthquake in Japan, and unease about the European fiscal situation. That will happen from time to time. There will be bumps on the road to recovery."

They could check all social security numbers that aren’t having any taxes deducted from paychecks, because they’re not receiving any paychecks since they have no jobs. There’s also the fact that federal tax deductions have to be way down from all the unemployed...but logic tells me that once the unemployment runs out, they may, and with this administration, most likely are, count all the still unemployed as returning to work. The unemployed number is waaaaay higher than what they say.

"Signs of slowing down"? WTF? Talk about a lapdog press - the bastard blows a hole in the bottom of the boat, and the frickin' MSM acts like a rocket's launch trajectory is slIghtly flattening out.

I don't know what's worse - the lies, or the absolute contempt for people's intelligence.

Or the fact that liberals actually believe this crap.

Did he blame the “country” of Europe?

I guess we should be thankful that Obama hasn’t blamed us for his failures but I guess that’s next!

Remember Jimmy Carter, the sweater and the malaise speech? Of course, that's next. It's the damn upper middle class who won't spend and won't hire people to work. We need to take away their money for the public good.

Obozo will soon have to decide if he wants to leave in the Jimmy Carter fashion or the Nicolae Ceaușescu fashion. But leave he must.

Just surprised he’s not blaming Israel.

I strongly suspect that the operative word that should be in that statement is... yet...

hmmmm......very interesting. I’ve been wondering how exactly they’ve been arriving at this figure.
I’m having a hard time picturing a bunch of people answering on some questionair “heck no! I’ve simply stopped looking for a job!”

I'm sure Japan and Europe will love hearing this coming from Dear Reader. But it also shows that he has no intention of changing course which in the short term is bad for the country, but may also not bode well for his re-election chances.

Granted some people may have stopped looking since there isn’t much out there any more. Thanks to ZerO companies aren’t hiring, big construction jobs aren’t getting funded with all the uncertainty.

My husband would much rather have collected his paycheck than less than half of it! They often depict the unemployed just sitting back enjoying the ‘free money’. Such is not the case at all for most I would think, especially when unemployment barely pays all the bills.

I’m very sorry you’re in this situation. I hope that a viable candidate will emerge that will at least give everyone hope for the near future.

Sometimes things get better just knowing improvement is right around the corner.

A candidate that will beat The One - who will initiate real stimulus? open up drilling?
Waiting for a breath of fresh air for our country!

Thanks. We’re hoping so too! I’m leaning towards a certain high heel dropping into the race, seems to be the best candidate to do all that you just said!!

It would be wonderful to watch a woman get the job done.

I have so many liberal female friends who can’t see past their gutteral - hatred reaction to both Bachman or Palin.
They’ve had a good amount of time to write up their list against Palin - but Bachman? They don’t have a clue why they hate her - they just do.

I think the guy is so over medicated he can’t find his way to the podium. All of the crazy antics lately are too much to just be gaffes. The guy stumbled through Europe. Washing down anti depressants with a couple of Blue Moons will put the sillies in you. Did you hear his speech to the Jeep workers the other day? When is his next Medical due?

Working tech support for a major tech company, I cringe when the support tickets come in and the phone number starts with +91 .... and or I look at the name and it is an (East) Indian spelling. Next on the list are people from the Northeast and worse if they are also East Indians on H1-B’s ! Very pushy people and they don’t think twice when getting nasty with you and are very unreasonable. They insist on you fixing their problem but will not listen to you when you have a solution.

I would not take a job in India even if I get laid off.

> IBM tells me I need to move to India so their douchebag fatcats can reap high incomes while I earn turd world salary.
