Three points:

1) “Horserace” polling for a primary at this point is pointless, let alone the general election. The only useful tidbit to take out of this is how poorly Obama fares in general (50% or under against all probably challengers (and a few improbable ones)).

2) It’s PPP, a notoriously liberally-biased polling firm.

3) They oversampled Democrats, as usual. 47-36 Dem to GOP in this case.

PPP has party affiliation at D +11.

Gallup’s 2011 party id shows NC to be at D +5.2. So they basically doubled the differential.

What PPP has been doing for the last 3 years is using the party split from 2008 as their sample (when Obama and Dems were riding high, and completely ignoring what has happened in since). They are a joke.

I estimate that only 25% of Obama’s former voters will turn out for him, more in blue states.

People really hate Obama now because they feel that somehow, with no explanation but a certain intuition, Obama is destroying America.

The problem is NO ONE ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE IS LOUDLY TELLING THEM WHY.

You have it exactly right!!! Obama is not going to carry North Carolina, not even close!!! IMHO, his total state victories will range from five to seven states and....that assumes he does not get worse in his ratings!!!

In a way you are correct when you say that it is due to a lot of the Yankee transplants. However, there are a number of us that could not stand democrats when we lived in the north. I’ve been here for 15 years and do see that transplants from the big northern cities have helped degenerate this once great state. When you talk to those that come from the rural areas of northern states you will find that many of them could not stand the dims to begin with. Also, there are plenty that came from the big cities, like myself, that never voted democratic to begin with. The only thing to do is to convince those that love dims that helping foreign countries and apologizing for our great country is not the way to go. Another thing is to stop buying chinese junk at wallie world and foreign cars does not help the American economy. I have gone out of my way to promote buying American and voting for more responsible parties (ie:conservative/republicans). We need a new car and I guarantee that we will not be buying one that ends in an O or an A as many are doing. Showing by example that dims are not the way to be a genuine American.

Immigration. From Census figures, in 1990 there were 76,726 Hispanics out of a population of 6,628,637. There were 1,456,323 blacks.

In 2000, there were 371,432 Hispanics out of a population of 8,049,313.

In 2010, there were 800,120 Hispanics out of a population of 9,535,483. There are 2,048,628 blacks. So about a third of the population is black/Hispanic. There are also 208,962 Asians.

Hispanics have increased about ten times during the past 20 years while the total population has increased 50%.

I think we need a targeted GOP ticket, one aiming to capture the Black vote and the woman’s vote and the Northern vote and the Southern vote and the NRA vote and the businessman’s vote....

say....

Palin-Cain

or maybe

Cain-Palin?

;-)

Have Bo Snerdley do a campaign commercial, “Yo, Bro. Obama is not Black enough to be yo’ main man. Go with the REAL black MAN, Cain!”

(apologies to all the “people of color” out there, black, brown, yellow, various shades of pink & tan & red, if the above offends you. I do not believe that it would offend either Snerdley or Cain and it was intended to mock the liberals obsession with skin color.)

NC has been invaded and conquered. I was at Wal-Mart saturday for the first time in years and was the only gringo in the place. In my local paper this week, an illegal was shot in the chest 6 times and dumped in a cul-de-sac by another illegal who is now at large. This state has turned to crap.

You find it “surprising” that a PPP poll that presumes higher Dem turnout than in 2008 and thus shows Obama doing well? Are you.channeling Claude Raines? : )

they kept sending John Edwards back to the Senate year after year, meaning a whole lot of North Carolinians were buying into that “two Americas” crap. I think the problem goes a whole lot deeper than Yankee transplants.

He won by 12,000 votes, very close. A 25% black population helped, but I think he was carried by stupid suburban moderates (as opposed to me a stupid suburban conservative) who bought into the hope and change crap. I can’t see it happening again, convention or no convention in Charlotte.

Well put. It may be close, since national Democrats will probably put about $25+ million into North Carolina. No Senate race and (likely) not that many competitive House races will hurt them with coordinated funding, though. McCrory can hold his own in the Governor's race.

Elections for a US Senate seat are held every 6 years. They only voted for Edwards once, over Sen. Lauch Faircloth, who made a poor contrast in debates due to his age and hearing loss.

and it's still to close to his Osama bump, wait a few more months and his REAL polls numbers (low 40’s, high 30’s) will reemerge.

I know it seems close in terms of total votes cast, but let me clarify. It wasn’t razor thin with controversy, recounts, lawsuits, etc. It was a clear Obama win. In the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court election, conservatives were ecstatic that the conservative justice retained his seat on the court after the lib dem refused to concede and the votes were recounted. They were bragging about a 12,000 vote win.

that's an easy one in North Carolina blacks make up 21.5% of the population and it's only 10.8% in Pennsylvania.

Obama carried NC last time...don’t think it was too close, either.

Obama won the state 2,142,651 to 2,128,474. A mere .33% difference.

Yeah, it was close.

yep, the dregs of Mexico are doing to our country what they have already done to theirs.

When can we expect beheading as the cartels take over.

If Obama had not won by a comfortable margin in the Electoral College, North Carolina (and Indiana and Missouri) would have been recounted.

The two traditional GOP states he rolled that he may still have a shot in are Virginia and New Hampshire.

But Ohio, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, and Nebraska’s 2nd were within 5 points and I don’t think he holds any of those this time around.
