NRA President shilling for gun banner Romney

National Rifle Association President David Keene is predicting a Mitt Romney victory in the 2012 Republican presidential nominating process , and working to burnish the credentials of the liberal former Governor of Massachusetts.

Here's the problem:

As Governor, Mitt Romney banned guns.

From July, 2004:

Governor Mitt Romney has signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that he says will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on these guns.

"Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts," Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony on July 1 with legislators, sportsmen's groups and gun safety advocates. "These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people."

Like the federal assault weapons ban, the state ban, put in place in 1998, was scheduled to expire in September. The new law ensures these deadly weapons, including AK-47s, UZIs and Mac-10 rifles, are permanently prohibited in Massachusetts no matter what happens on the federal level.

I'm thinking that perhaps NRA members, and anyone else who cares about the protection of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, might want to ask Mr. Keene how much money he and/or the organizations he represents have received from Mr. Romney and his closest allies.

Because, the way I see it, such considerations are the only thing that can explain why the head of the nation's largest gun organization would be shilling for someone who banned exactly the sort of weapons that in 1775 the British went to Lexington and Concord to seize.

Keene and the rest of NRA higher ups have betrayed the American people for some time. Supporting Harry Reid, who would sell out gun owners in a heartbeat if he thought the left had a chance to confiscate guns????? Unbelievable, NRA. I dropped my membership a year ago and they STILL send me things.

The libs worked on this for years. Conservatives did not.

However, I wouldn’t vote for Romney if he promised an AR with lifetime free ammo to every registered republican.

Oh, I don't know. He could probably buy my vote with an offer like that. Of course, I'd have to get it BEFORE election day.

Of course, after he gave it to you he’d ban it.

Lost it, along with all my other guns, in a boating accident crossing the Yukon River.

Mitt sucks. I hate global warming believers, I hate Mormons and I hate gun banners, but I’d still crawl through broken flaming glass to vote for him to get rid of Barack Whostain NoMomma.

I walked from the NRA years ago. Other groups do a better job. They have nice magazines, tho.

They can keep Romney, too.

As a vet, I also have no issue with those who choose not to server.

That being said, it does raise an eyebrow that there are six men (the father and five sons) in the family, yet not a single one of them served their country in any capacity whatsoever.

The problems goes even further back than that. It's not just Mitt and his sons who have never served in the military, it the entire Romney clan going back to 1840.

It makes me wonder if there couldn't some issue at hand - like Dad/Grandad advising against it or perhaps them having some other type of compunction. A mindset of thinking it's beneath them?

Or perhaps it's just a mindset of viewing this country as merely a resource to be exploited for their own benefit, economically, politically, etc., but to which they owe no real allegiance or commitment (after all, military service requires the Oath, and the pledge of your lives).

The tragedy of Mitt Romney is twofold. First, he's extremely intelligent, competent, "clean and articulate", but he has no core. There is absolutely nothing on which he won't compromise, no principle which he won't sacrifice, nothing on which he'll draw the line and fight to the death.

In an earlier, less critical time in our history, he'd have made an okay President, but in what's coming down the pike real soon he'd be a disaster.

Second, the lifelong raw, naked lust for the Presidency of both him and his father is a great big honking red flag to anyone with a brain. Anyone who wants the job that badly should not be trusted - their needs and desires will always trump the needs of the country and it's people. The narcissist we currently have may yet prove fatal to the Republic - we dare not risk another.

Leaders of the NRA, National Right To Life, American Conservative Union and other inside the beltway political establishment groups all want Romney.

They will work to elect him by direct endorsement, endorsement of splitter candidates to help Romney divide the conservative vote among others and any other means.

I’m from Massachusetts, and the health care thing is what’s going to destroy Mitt’s chances, he’s the “father” of Obamacare, and he can’t get away from that. It’s true that with a 95% Democrat Senate the bill would have gone through even with his veto, and it’s also true that he got the chance to take out some of the worst parts of the bill by relenting and signing it. BUT, he really needed to veto it anyway, because he should have known it would be an albatross for the rest of his political career. Pity, too, because he’s a strong candidate with superior credentials and he knows how to lead and how to deal with finances and the economy. But he screwed HIMSELF up. Whick is OK with me, there are some other, more dynamic candidates than Romney out there. I’d like to see a Bobby Jindal/Bachman team get nominated.

I do have a problem with Mitt avoiding military service

Not me, not everyone served in Vietnam. not everyone serves in the military. You don't have to have been in the military to be a good representative - look at Michelle Bachman

what i have a problem with is his political record on taxation, health care, gun control, and just about everything else. A record that any liberal democrat would be proud of. To hell with another liberal country club republican like shrub.

Stupid, stupid NRA - Romney is NOT your friend.

Au contraire. They are his friend and he theirs. Without gun control the NRA would go gack to being the shooting club it was in the first half of the 20th century. The big donations, millions of defalcated members, and, worst of all, the fat salaries woud dry up.

Post 53 said a lot more than that Mitt should have served, all able body men should try to serve, especially those being groomed for leadership, I don't apply that to the females.

Why?

those being groomed for leadership I don't apply that to the females.

So you say men are inherently inferior and need military service to be equal on leadership skills to women? What a crock.
