Man shoots finger off in wart removal (hold muh beer)

A British man has shot his own finger off in an effort to get rid of a painful wart.

Sean Murphy, a security guard from Yorkshire, blew most of his middle finger off with a shotgun after drinking several pints of beer, The Sun newspaper reported.

The 38-year-old was charged with possessing an illegal firearm after the incident but walked free yesterday after a judge handed him a suspended sentence.

Murphy told the Doncaster Magistrates' Court how he had lived with the wart for five years and had tried several removal creams over the years to no avail.

He added that the wart "was hurting a lot and causing my finger to bend".

"It was as big as my thumbnail. I'd been to the doctors with it and tried all sorts of things but it wouldn't go," he was quoted saying.

He said he didn't expect to lose most of his finger in the shooting.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to the possession of firearms charge and also to theft of the shotgun after he told police he found the firearm in a hedge near his work.

A police investigation revealed that it was stolen in a 2009 burglary which Murphy claims he had no knowledge of, The Sun reported.

The judge handed him a 16-week suspended sentence.

Wow, that dude is 38?

That's a rough-looking 38, and he looks like a walking heart attack to boot.

The wart is gone; so obviously, it worked!

Yeah, but the side effects are a real b****.

Heavy-handed: Sean Murphy pictured after the accident in which the middle finger of his left hand was blown off by a shotgun

Sorry, guys. When you do something deliberately, it's not an accident.

And no, it wasn't blown off by the shotgun - he blew it off using a shotgun.

Gosh. Sounds just like the tragic boating accident, when we lost all our firearms. Bummer.

I had a wart on the inside of my middle finger (right hand) just below the first knuckle all through high school. Used to play with it with my right thumbnail. Became an unconscious habit. Or maybe a nervous habit. I don’t know.

Anyway, while in Navy bootcamp I would scratch it with my thumbnail while standing at attention. One day I dug the wart out doing just that. Stood there at attention with blood dripping down my finger. That got rid of the wart, I thought.

Six months later it was back. Finally, a few years later, after it really started bothering me, I had it frozen off.

But I still catch myself scratching that finger with the thumbnail.

You got that right. Warts need air, and if you tape over them, they die without leaving a scar. Takes a while, though.

Shotgun side effects when used for wart removal: mutilation of appendages, possible loss of brain tissue, castration, fatal blood loss, horrible regrets, Darwin award.

Its what you call a ‘travel trailer’, I think.

‘United Kingdom

The National Caravan Council estimate that the caravan industry which includes motorhomes, touring caravans (caravans designed to be hitched to a car and towed to a site) and static caravans and mobile homes (caravans designed to be transported to a permanent site, where they are anchored to the ground) is now worth over £1bn (€1.5bn/US$1.7bn) to the UK economy alone. The growth in popularity of caravanning has been enhanced by improvements in caravan quality and caravan site facilities making caravan holidays possible at any time of the year not just summer months.

Theft of touring caravans was a significant problem but this has reduced in recent years. In the UK, The Association of Chief Police Officers estimates that some 1,600 touring caravans are stolen each year but this is showing a downward trend Crime Reduction. Many caravan insurance companies require additional security features to be purchased such as wheel clamps and electronic tracking devices. The [12] CRIS registration service has also helped track theft. In April 2010, UKCaravan.org estimated that only 4% of stolen touring caravans are recovered.[13]

There are two main organisations that many caravanners join in the United Kingdom, the Caravan Club, established in 1907, and the Camping and Caravanning Club, established in 1901. Both clubs offer a range of services including exclusive club sites, preferential rates, advice, services such as insurance, and community activities including regional and national rallies’

The NHS regularly removes warts just like anyone else, I can assure you. I find this odd, I can only assume that he went once or twice to a GP, it didnt clear, and he didnt go back to see a doctor.

I know from family experience that if creams etc fail, then a British GP will refer the patient to hospital for a minor op (ie removal). In fact, I am not sure that some larger surgeries wont do it there by a senior nurse.

You're right. It's got wheels and hooks up to a trailer hitch.

Wow. I wonder why he didn’t cut off the wart? It seems that it would be less traumatic.

I don’t know. For moles, I heard that castor oil mixed with baking soda to make a paste and applied to the mole and covered with a band-aid for three days would kill it, but I haven’t tried it yet.
