The leader of the largest public sector union promises to mount the most sustained campaign of industrial action the country has seen since the general strike of 1926, vowing not to back down until the government has dropped its controversial pension changes.
Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison – which has 1.4 million members employed by the state – described plans for waves of strike action, with public services shut down on a daily basis, rolling from one region to the next and from sector to sector.
He said there was growing anger over a public sector pay freeze that could trigger more disputes further down the line and that the changes would unfairly penalise women, who form the majority of low-paid public sector workers. "It will be the biggest since the general strike. It won't be the miners' strike. We are going to win."

Good Lord, who is going to pay for their entitlements?
The British Labor movement was much stronger in 1926 and you are right most people will not support that strike.
I think more and more people understand that entitlements need to be paid by someone (the taxpayer)

Let’s have a good strike against a Labor government. Maybe that will show the Wisconsin voters what they would face if they vote like dumbasses in the Recall elections.
Why can’t we just get rid of unions?
I mean, now would be the time, with so many people out of work.
Just say, hey, we’re not going to deal with the union any more. Nobody would even need to lose their job.
If folks want to form some kind of “union” and pool their money for a pension fund, or whatever, that’s fine too.
But, no bargaining with the “union” by the employer. Anyone who goes on “strike” is fired and replaced by the next willing worker.
Ok, with some jobs this might be harder than others, but almost all gov’t jobs could be immediately replaced.
The Public School teachers are the biggest bunch of losers going, they could all be replaced within one school year.
And as for the SEIU, they mostly represent basically unskilled workers, like hotel maids and restaurant workers, they could be destroyed in about 6 weeks.
I say JUST DO IT!

These socialist, union leftists in the U.K. and in Europe are killing the economies of their countries by resisting debt and spending reforms and the strike option especially hurts an important sector, tourism. Many from the U.S. and elsewhere are booking summer and fall travel now and we sure won’t go where we think transport, tourist sites such as museums and parks will be affected by strikes. Greece was off my list for the past 2 years, so I went to Egypt instead-before the revolution. Money walks from trouble.

It is actually a Tory/Liberal Democrat coalition government at present.
