Gore says extreme weather shows need to take action on climate change By Andrew Restuccia - 06/21/11 10:50 AM ET
Former Vice President Al Gore is sounding the alarm about climate change and extreme weather, pointing to the recent floods along the Mississippi River, drought in Texas and wildfires in Arizona.
In a keynote address at the Games for Change Festival Monday in New York City, Gore pointed to a slew of extreme weather events in the United States and around the world. He raised concerns about the wildfires in Arizona and drought in Texas, as well as the recent flooding along the Mississippi River.
Today, the biggest fire in the history of the state of Arizona is spreading to New Mexico. Today, the biggest flood in the history of the Mississippi River Valley is under way right now, Gore said.
At what point is there a moment where we say, Oh, we ought to do something about this?
Gore, the chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection, has long called for measures to drastically reduce the countrys greenhouse gas emissions, warning of the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change.
In his address, Gore waded into the politically thorny issue of climate change and extreme weather. While some climate scientists argue that you cant draw conclusions from any one particular weather event, others say climate change is to blame in part for recent extreme weather.
Gore, in a portion of his speech posted by the website Treehugger.com, also pointed to large-scale flooding in Nashville last year.
Thousands of my neighbors lost their homes and businesses, Gore said. They had no flood insurance because there has never been a flood in the areas that were flooded.
And he listed other extreme weather events around the world like flooding in Pakistan, Australia and Colombia.
Does anyone really take this nut seriously?
Oh, STFU already Al. What happened to Global Warming? That’s right, it snowed everywhere you went. Climate change, that’s it. Must...remain...relevant...to...loonies. Those carbon offsets still pulling him in money or did that die?

I agree with Al. I mean, check it out... TOTALLY bright during the day, and REALLY dark at night. Doesn’t get any more extreme than THAT!
On the Mississippi floods, he is wrong. Flow rates set a few records and obviously the water heights, but mostly due to levees. Where neither set records, it was because the water was able to spread out the way it is supposed to (which enriches the farmland which was allegedly being "destroyed").
I thought for sure that Gore would have his hands full tending to his new TV star, Keef Overwrought, but apparently he still has ample time to make a nuisance of himself.
McCain said the illegals started the fire.
Are you serial?
Blocking weather pattern. It was cold and warm in various places for extended periods this spring. Blocking is mostly caused by solar effects.
lol. thanks for the chuckle.

It’s pretty simple really. If old Al really believes all the garbage he spews, and he honestly believes the human race is in trouble, donate all he has to his cause, except for enough to live a modest life.
When that happens, I’ll start paying attention.
BTW, am I the only one that notices that the greenies never talk about danger to the human race, it’s always the threat to the planet. Without a self aware life form, like about 1/2 the human race, who cares what happens to the planet?
Got to keep the B.S. going...those mansions, planes, limos, & boats aren't going to pay for themselves.

Mr Gore, at what point do we say we have made God angry and He’s had enough of our ignorance? Shut-up Al, your hot air is killing us.
Funniest reply ever!
Yes, Algore, this is man-made climate change caused by the extreme sinfulness of our nation, where every kind of perversion and breaking of God’s Commandments is promoted by the godless humanists, who worship only themselves.
God is getting our attention by flood, drought, earthquakes and pestilence, as He so often did in the biblical account of His story. As the end times draw near, we can heed the warnings He is giving us to repent and get ready for His second coming.
Someone should run this scenario past Algore and his ilk. They love scare tactics. Try this one on for size.
Me thinks he has lost his mind.
Left the shallow part of the pool heading for the deep end, gone around the bend, redefined the word cuckoo...
Actually that La Nina is over but you are correct, sir.
