Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti was actually killed in Afghanistan on June 21, 2006. In September 2009, President Obama awarded him the Medal of Honor posthumously.
On his Facebook page this evening, Monti's father, Paul, posted: "FYI- President Barack Obama telephoned me personally this afternoon to apologize for his error in his speech to the 10th mountain division re: Jared's medal ceremony. Apology accepted."

At least he apologized. I don’t think much of this man. I don’t care why he apologized, but at least it was done.

IMO these types of errors should never occur. For heaven’s sake, he is reading it off of a teleprompter. Doesn’t anyone there check and double check facts? If it were my employee, they would now be known as “former”. Since he really doesn’t know anything about the military or their importance and appears to consider them irrelevant, it doesn’t surprise me either.
I would have let it go to voice mail.

Having said that, I have to give the man some credit...as stupid as he is... he at least took the effort to call and apologies to the family...

When someone describes the p=rez as “president barack obama” completely, it’s mostly a Dem. If the father of the insulted says that the apology is accepted, I’d move on.
However, you are correct that it was left to Tapper to report this, and left to a Facebook page? Not even the mandatory BS lie from the WH?

IMO He only apologizes when he stands to gain something for doing so, privately or otherwise. But in this serious offense he really had no choice but to apologize...meaningfully or not...had he not done so this thing would have gone viral in a huge way and not rest till he did so. He simply nipped it in the bud.
God forbid anything were to happen to my son, but, if my son is killed in action I will not permit this man to have anything to do with any service or ceremony for my son. I would invite President Bush, but not this empty suit.

Makes you wonder two things...one is that whoever is preparing him for speaking engagements is inexpereinced in every way....or someone is deliberately trying to fowl him up. Either way it remains Obama’s responsiblilty to appoint those who proof and establish the facts. This was a major blunder.
