I think Steyn filled in for Howie one day a few yrs ago
Sandy does take the occasional vacation week and not long ago she had time off for some kind of cosmetic surgery or something (a day)
I think supposedly Howie is on today, from F1 Boston? Think so. I have spent a week in Western PA & part of Ohio, coming back to New England tomorrow. Miss Howie. Heard some podcast bits of last Wed’s show
Sandy also had something serious like gall bladder surgery or some other major condition in the past year or two. Sounded bad is all I remember.
I can hear Hanity’s/Medved’s/Hewitt’s....
But alas, no Howie

I have to concede that McPhee is marginally better than Howie’s old fill-in, Giles Threadgold. I hurt my fingers as I hurried to turn off the program when he was on.
Am out of area (one final day) and got my netbook to record WNTK’s feed; don’t know if it got all of it or got disconnected. Starting tomorrow am back in New England
Was briefly in Akron OH; ate out at an awesome Italian place (est. in 1949) Luigi’s just before a minor league ballgame. Right next to a vegetarian bistro owned by Akron’s Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders; heard THAT was awful. (Hynde, during a concert: “Are we at war yet? Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win! Down with the economic s-— this country represents!” I’m sure she was happy with any money her band made, though. In the Middle East she’d be wearing a burkha
and prevented from working in such a way, or traveling without permission, or driving...)
LOL, yeah, but when you listened to Giles as bad as he was, did your ears bleed, did dogs go running out of the room, did glass shatter, did birds fall from the sky? LOL!
Giles was good as a sidekick to Howie (but prob not on his own, as he did on WXTK for awhile). On a Friday at 3 pm when the news was released about Jocelyn Elders resigning due to her “let’s teach masturbation” comment it was too late for Rush to comment on it but there was Howie and Giles and it was hilarious. Giles “retired” (at the insistence of his wife?) but back when VB was doing his “Pleasure Pit” show, or maybe as part of Howie’s, VB got Giles to say “My name is Giles and I’m an alcoholic” and that would get played from time to time
I’ll concede that Giles didn’t make my ears bleed. McPhee’s Eastie accent reminds a bit of the Butchie days. Was he ever annoying.
Wow, Butchie, now there’s a name from the past and yes, he was annoying! With McPhee it’s not just the accent, it’s the shrill screamimg, Laura Ingraham, Hillary, Palin, they all do it - detracts from what they’re saying.

If it’s McPhee I’ll turn it off, can’t listen to her. I can take Avi and the Col a lot better, at least my ears don’t bleed when they speak!
I’d rather have a ‘best of’ show than listen to one of the guest hosts. Howie hasn’t done a ‘lite’ segment in a long time.....if he had, there would be more material for a best of Howie show. Heck, I’d take replays of the ‘Wizard of Uhs’ over McPhee or the Colonel.
