Amazon terminates deal with 25,000 Calif. affiliates
The Orange County Register ^ | 6/30/2011 | Jan Norman

Gov. Jerry Brown has signed into law California’s tax on Internet sales through affiliate advertising which will immediately cut small-business website revenue 20% to 30%, experts say.

The bill, AB 28X, takes effect immediately. The state Board of Equalization says the tax will raise $200 million a year, but critics claim it will raise nothing because online retailers will end their affiliate programs rather than collect the tax.

Amazon has already emailed its termination of its affiliate advertising program with 25,000 websites

Sure hope NewEgg opens a Texas office :-(

Be careful what you wish for, Texas was looking at taxing Amazon and the others as well, and there is still a lot going on behind the scenes. At one point Amazon was threatening to close their center here, and they are playing a dangerous game of chicken.

Texas has a very active lobbying group that is going after internet retailers, and it's not just the local shops, it's companies like Wal-Mart.

That’s a little over the top.

A little premature perhaps, but not by much
Over the top? Not at all.

You know that's not true. Vast swaths of California, including where I live, are decidedly WHITE much less conquered by Mexico in any way, shape or from.

With the passage of this law (and Amazon’s subsequent termination of California affiliates) 7-8% of my income has just been wiped out.

The state of California will get NO sales tax from Amazon, and because the California affiliates will get no more money from Amazon, their incomes will drop and the state will therefore collect less in income tax from them.

Another less-than-worthless action from a less-than-worthless legisature.

The Anti-Dog-Eat-Dog Rule?

Bet on it. No more moving companies out-of-state. It's unfair to high-tax states, which have more human feeling for the common man. :)

“Is there any doubt, that as federal and state governments start seeing more companies flee rather than pay obscenely high taxes, some brilliant Democrat will propose a law to prevent companies from “escaping?””

Consider it done.

Boeing v. National Labor Relations Board.

I _do_ expect to see something like this in California within five years — both some kind of law intended to try to punish businesses from escaping, AND another law that tries to confiscate the wealth of individuals (Euro-Americans) escaping...

Just sayin’...

I completely believe it, the last time I was in LA was around 1979 and I went back a few months ago and all I can say is ho-ly eff-in WTF shiet fire save matches!!!! I live in Queens New York city, grew up here, and I thought HERE was out of control, especially with this thing we call a Mayor who actually encourages illegal migration, but LA is COMPLETELY insane!! It IS Mexico! Me and my brother were cruising thru East LA looking at each other like “How much DID we drink last night? Dude we crossed the border!! Shiet!!!” My god man, this country is just getting slowly eaten away.

Amazon.com should have no sales tax protection that isn’t offered to every other business in California.

Since I want only sales taxes (and tariffs...sort of the same thing) and only those taxes at nation, state, and local levels, I must support fair, no-exceptions sales tax policy.

I want an end to income, property, capital gains, death, and all other forms of taxation other than sales taxes at every level of government.

It is the most fair form of tax, and it is graduated because those who buy more pay more, and it has every American participating in funding their government.
