Texas lawmakers let pat-down ban die
The Hill ^

Posted on 06/30/2011 9:23:53 AM PDT by Mozilla

Texas lawmakers adjourned their special session Wednesday without passing a ban on Transportation Security Administration pat-downs, to the dismay of staunch conservative critics of the agency.

The bill, which would have criminalized touching passengers' genitalia during hand searches at airport security checkpoints, had already been watered down by the Texas Senate. The upper chamber of the Texas Legislature added provisions to allow TSA agents to deliver a hand search if they have a reasonable suspicion one is necessary.

The provisions were added to the House version of the bill, but the chamber adjourned without taking a vote on the tweaked bill it had already passed.

The bill's sponsor in the Texas House, state Rep. David Simpson (R), vowed Wednesday to try again next year.

Maybe year after next as the Texas Legislature meets every two years, not yearly.

LOL, where are all the TX chest beaters? TX is no different than the rest of the country. They elected a pack of cowards and liars to represent them. Like KA, TX is way overrated.

Making Straus the Speaker was a death knell for any real conservative legislation. He spent the previous session doing the Democrats bidding, what made anyone think he’d be on our side this time?

A useless Supermajority. What a joke.

And the country had better take a good look at their governor should he decide to run for president. He used to be a liberal RAT.

The TX Rs are mostly a pack of cowards and liars. TX, however, is different from the rest of the country. We are still far freer than most of the rest, both economically and othewise.

Well, you’re right, we Texans are hanging our heads and eating crow over this.

Where are you from, by the way? Maybe you could send us a copy of the anti-groping law your state passed so we can use it as a template. Thanks in advance.

;-)

Good it was so watered down it was bad legislation. Try again next year. By then there will be a thousand new horror stories to tell about the TSA. People will be twice as ticked off.

I would be willing to bet American and Southwest Airlines, among others, were burning up the phone lines. Since the Feds were threatening retaliation if the bill passed, it's doubtful the airlines would want to be put in the middle of a state vs. fed dispute. JMHO.

I thought for certain that Governor Perry would have gotten behind this to cement the Republican nomination. Hell, we might even have crowned him King! Oh well, I am released from my vow to support him and am issuing an immediate apology to Sarah for my unfaithfulness.

Typical gutless politicians. Play for the press, and the idiots who re-elect them, then take their money and go home.

It’s obvious every politician is bought and paid for or dirty as they can be. Something makes them all afraid of the federal government.

If we can’t count on our local elected officials to stand up to the king, we’re screwed.

If Perry had really passed this then he might have been unstoppable. Don’t get what went wrong. And yes the bill did get watered down after both houses disagreed on things.

And believe it, Perry was glad it didn’t pass. It’s like two bullies....one is a chicken and the other one is happy that he is.

Oh, the Feds were threatening retaliation alright - Eric Holder & Co. threatened a total no-fly order for all flights in and out of Texas airports if they pursued this:

http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2011/05/24/feds-issue-threat-no-fly-zone-for-texas/

Or just google Feds Threaten Texas with No-Fly Order and see what all comes up.

That’s what Obama, Holder and their thugs do - bully any state that tries to defend its sovreignty. Look at what they’ve been putting Arizona through as well.

No, you aren’t, you just believe you are. TX is NOT different. There are many other places just a ‘free’. You need to get out more. :) BTW I completely understand the TX ‘mind set’ (ah well as much one can). My sister lives there so Ive gotten the ‘Why TX is better’ speech far more times than should be required of man or beast. BTW she’s a flaming liberal too. So, between that and the TX is superior attitude we rarely have a calm conversation. LOL!

It’s like we’re living in a newly-minted Third World dictatorship.

LOL, this isn’t horseshoes you know. Just proposing a bill isn’t the same as actually passing AND enforcing it. Anyone can propose but...well you get the picture. So, no points for you. No need to hang your head or eat crow. I think it would be far more productive to replace the cowards.

Im from TN and aspirations here are considerably lower. Our legislature until this round was predominately dem. The people of TN have an undeserved reputation for being conservative. Our legislature, like yours, is full of cowards and liars. So see, TX isn’t so different. ;)
