It Gets Even Worse- NY Times EDITORIAL [Calls Anti-Immigration Laws "racist"]

EDITORIAL It Gets Even Worse Published: July 3, 2011

If you thought the do-it-yourself anti-immigrant schemes couldn’t get any more repellent, you were wrong. New laws in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina are following — and in some ways outdoing — Arizona’s attempt to engineer the mass expulsion of the undocumented, no matter the damage to the Constitution, public safety, local economies and immigrant families.

The laws vary in their details but share a common strategy: to make it impossible for people without papers to live without fear.

They give new powers to local police untrained in immigration law. They force businesses to purge work forces and schools to check students’ immigration status. And they greatly increase the danger of unreasonable searches, false arrests, racial profiling and other abuses, not just against immigrants, but anyone who may look like some officer’s idea of an illegal immigrant.

The laws empower local police officers to demand the documents of people they meet, and to detain those they suspect are here illegally. That means they can make warrantless arrests for assumed civil immigration violations, a stunning abuse of power.

The laws also make it illegal to give a ride to the undocumented, so a son could land in jail for driving his mother to the supermarket, or a church volunteer for ferrying families to a soup kitchen. They require businesses to check employees against the error-plagued federal E-Verify database, and to fire those who are flagged as unauthorized. Once the purge takes hold in agriculture, there will be no one left to pick onions, peaches and cotton. The immigrant labor shortage is already being felt in Georgia, where crops are rotting and the governor has called for using jobless ex-convicts in the fields.

NY Times is saying only one race breaks our immigration laws.

NY Times is racist.

The libs who cry about this think nothing of it when they themselves are asked to provided ID while traveling in a foreign country. It's expected -- one shows one's papers and without blinking an eye. But asking folks to show some ID here in America?! Heaven forbid. "Racist."

“They give new powers to local police untrained in immigration law.”

Police work is called law enforcement for a reason. The police are pretty good at dealing with criminal activity. These illegal immigrants in their first act as they begin their new lives in the US by breaking US law. Why should we encourage people willing to do that?

There are literally thousands of people lining up to get into the US legally. Why should they bother to be suckers? What is the incentive for these law-abiding people to immigrate the right and legal way? Pandering to illegal immigrants lessens respect for the laws of our country, cheapens the value of citizenship and is destructive to our values as Americans.

I am in favor of more legal immigration and would like to see it easier for immigrants to become legal American citizens. But I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants who believe they are entitled to the benefits that should only be provided to American citizens.

My disgust with the NY Times continues to increase unabated.

The New York Times loves to prove what a traitorous and despicable America hating Marxist rag sheet it is everyday.

Blah, blah, blah, blah .....Arizona’s attempt to engineer the mass expulsion of the undocumented, no matter the damage to the Constitution, public safety, local economies and immigrant families, blah, blah, boo hooo hooo hoooo!!!

This is just the NYT crying big, fat crocodile tears over a favored demographic of fence-jumpers who split 70/30 Democrat whenever they can slide into a voting booth.

You don't see them crying over Chinese and Cubanos who vote Republican when they get their papers, if they do.

What “race” is the NYT inferring to constitute the majority of illegal aliens in the US?

Hispanics are considered to be Caucasians. I guess that leaves only the illegals who are Asian or Negro.

Just another example where the “race card” is being used by idiots who don’t have a clue.

I bet a “study” that says most illegals vote republican would get the border closed and illegals deported very quickly.

Write one up, publish it and send it viral.

Fight fire with gasoline.

Very well said.

The one silver lining to the piece is that even though the NYT calls the laws racist, even putting the accusation in the subtitle, it has very little sting. I wonder if the libs realize how much jeopardy their beloved race card is in these days. Hey NYT, it’s not racist to enforce the law.

I will also say that the new immigration law is very popular here in AL. I think it’s somewhere in the 60 to 70% range, with even half of Democrats supporting it. The newspapers here are liberal, but they function more as comic relief than anything else (they’re what the NYT would be in a sane universe). They are of course against the new laws, but they are roundly ignored. The only threat to the new law would be some kind of federal court action, which is precisely what the NYT is agitating for in this piece.

NY Slime: “We can’t have law enforcement acting like Gestapo against illegals. No, that’s only OK when a 95-year-old American woman in a wheelchair, dying of cancer, has to take off her adult diaper. Or a 7-year-old American girl is groped until she cries.”

Substitute “potential terrorist or cartel hit man” for “undocumented.” Then the stupidity of the entire editorial really shines through.

To the NY Crimes, every measure taken to protect the country is always racist, so....do it anyway. If the effete NY cocktail crowd hates it, all the better.

“Arizona’s attempt to engineer the mass expulsion of the undocumented, no matter the damage to the Constitution,...”

This is how you know there is going to be a war in this country. This “interpretation” of the constitution is literally deranged.
