Which Was Worse: Watergate or Operation 'Fast and Furious'?
Big Government ^ | 7/7/2011 | AWR Hawkins

After The Washington Post broke the news of the Watergate break-ins in 1972, the Nixon administration circled the wagons. And in 1997 – a full 25 years after the fact – Katherine Graham, who was with The Post in 1972, vividly recalled how “Nixon began making threats of economic retaliation against the paper.”

According to Graham, Nixon bullied the paper, sought to silence it, and launched a “campaign to undermine public confidence in [it].”

Judging from what Graham said, it appears that Nixon wanted to be sure people understood that if they continued to pry into Watergate or talk about Watergate or break news about Watergate as it unfolded, there would be harsh ramifications. (Keep in mind – Nixon had nothing to do with planning Watergate. Only with covering it up once he learned of it after the fact.)

Honestly folks, Watergate provided the Left with such a singularly sweet opportunity to bring down a Republican president that they’ve never gotten over it.

As recently as 2004, MSNBC sent reporters to the streets to be sure up and coming generations had not forgotten what Nixon had done. (I don’t want to belabor the point, but Nixon had nothing to do with planning Watergate. Only with covering it up once he learned of it after the fact.)

“It’s gonna be a long hot summer. Just like 1974...................”

I was at Scout camp that summer. It was hot as blazes.

“It could have easily gone away if Nixon would have made some simple decisions differently.”

#####

Or, if the Commie media did not have a score to settle with Richard Nixon’s stalwart Commie hunting activities as a member of HUAC.

Or, if the DemocratMeida had looked the other way even a tiny fraction as much as they habitually did during the abjectly seedy JFK and LBJ administrations.

YOu have to know there are more than a few folks in D.C. who are a bit nervous about this one reaching out and touching them.

No federal laws were broken.

The offices in question were in the District of Columbia, where everything from murder to littering is a matter of federal law.

We need him where he currently sits.

However, it would be nice to have a judgement against this bunch reach his desk on appeal!

Perhaps it would help if we start referring to it as “GunGate”.

Napolitano (sp) from Fox News might serve well as the judge.

Nope. Guy is a gun banner believe it or not. Got into a correspondance with him about hi-cap mags, NFA, etc. Said no one should own a semi-auto weapon. (Albiet he had it completely confused with full-auto weapons).

We are talking about a truly gruesome death toll, resulting from the President's attempt to undermine the 2nd Amendment.

WHen the Kenyan Commie has complete control, he wont mind a bit either imprisoning or killing 150,000,000 Americans....those with 4473s or that voted (R).

F&F hasn’t even unraveled yet...more to come

Don't look for it on Politico...they're talking more about the Pawlenty/Lady GaGa connection than Fast & Furious.

Fast and Furious is another amateurish spectacle. It appears that the motivation was to “prove” that Mexican drug cartels were using weapons imported from the United States. These people are imbelices.

E. Pluribus Unum said: "Name one federal law that was broken. "

Let's not get too carried away trying to minimize the corruption that was revealed during Watergate.

A campaign donation check to the Committee to Re-Elect the President was, I believe, one of the sources of the funds that were used to finance the burglary. I doubt that redirecting those funds was permissible under federal law at the time, and that redirection came as a surprise to the donor. This was one of the threads that led back to the White House.

Over sixty people were convicted of crimes, many of perjury, involving sworn testimony to federal investigators and Congress. I can't recall any conviction that would have been other than for federal crimes. Even the burglary was in Washington, DC, wasn't it; under federal jurisdiction?
