“then it’s a win.”

Agreed, if we get spending cuts, and no tax increases, then it is a win.

Especially now that the meme is out there that Obama and Co. wanted a BIG FAT TAX INCREASE.

If they don’t get that, clearly that’s a loss for them.

Hence a win for us.

Folks, we are not going to dismantle Leviathan, turn the ship of state around, take our country back (chose your metaphor) in ONE ELECTION CYCLE.

This could never happen.

So, if they hold the line on taxes and cut spending cuts, yes, Virginia, that is a win.

its not a win if it allows them to raise the debt limit again. Why is it so difficult to see that when both parties are willing to raise the Govt Visa Cards credit limit that they intend to spend it again! Both parties are attempting to raise the debt limit. NOw does that seem like they intend to lower debt. And in other news the sheeple are still asleep.

I agree this could be a good thing, most likely a negotiating tactic. Boehner knows that Obama is desperate to get a deal that will take debt and deficits off of the table until after 2012. A smaller $2 Trillion deal will guarantee another spending cap crisis in 2012, IMO, right in the middle of the election when raising taxes will be even more onerous for pols up for reelection!

It is not a win unless the debt ceiling is only increased by the amount of difference in spending reductions expected this year from the deal. Roughly an increase of $200 billion. Otherwise Obama will just be back looking for more spending authority and with the Senate in the hands of Democrats spending will still explode.

The real requirement should be to tie the debt limit increase to spending and to the passage of a balanced budget amendment to go to the states. No amendment no debt ceiling increase!!

During the lame duck session 7 months ago Odumbo agreed to not raise taxes for 2 years, but has been trying to do it once he got his extension of unemployment from 98 weeks to 155 weeks. So dealing with this turd will delay his parties rant that more taxes are necessary until when November???

I will know they are serious only when they agree to lower the debt limit and lower government spending. Anything less than that is more of the same usual crap from both parties.

He has not folded. His line in the sand has always been that spending cuts must exceed the increase in the debt ceiling and no tax increase. People who thought spending could be cut enough to avoid any increase in the debt do not understand arithmatic. We can only balance the budget with a new president and strong economic growth. It cannot happen in one year.

I can’t keep up with ya all www.boehner.house.gov...PLEASE SEND YOUR OPINIONS TO HIM TONIGHT!!! This is too important. If Boehner caves on this Obama will be a 2 term president. and we will lose a great number of GOP to the tea party(who will run as a third party). In other words dems will win all houses again. Boehner has all the cards.. We “shellacked” em last Nov on THIS ISSUE..lower taxes.he has to listen to Us. Two weeks ago at a fund raiser for Rep Grimm he looked me in the eye and said he “WILL NOT BLINK” on TAX INCREASES in this debt ceiling deal. This is the beginning of my holding his feet to the fire. Please help me (and ourselves) on this and email him at boehner.house.gov Thanks FRiends. I’m counting on you...

If we do not tie Obama’s hands and move to real debt reduction now it will never happen. Obama and the Democrats will run on the platform that they were able to bring about deficit reduction. Obama will claim he can reach across and work with Republicans. Both stances will help him for re-election and the election of Democrats in general.

We need real deficit reduction and a balanced budget amendment now!! If we do not stand firm this opportunity will too pass as it did in 1995 and 1997 because of the RINO’s in the Senate.

So if the debt reduction according to this plan is $2 trillion over ten years (roughly $200 billion a year) and the deficit next year is $1 trillion then the debt ceiling has to be raised at least 1 trillion. Does anyone believe we will see a balanced budget anytime soon without a budget amendment forcing it? The debt ceiling will have to continue to be raised as long as there are deficits.

What Boehner is talking about is not a real reduction just slowing the growth of the deficit. There is nothing to enforce fiscal discipline. He is a failure if he goes along with this as was Bart Stupak a tool for Obama and Pelosi on Obamacare.

To resolve the debt, we need $2T in cuts every year for the next 20 years.

Just emailed my rep asking Boehner be removed from the negotiations as he capitulated before even entering the room, and asking the smokey back room dealmaking end.

Stock up and hunker down, folks. The only way this will resolve is by outright collapse.

One more throb thread. Everybody is a genius here and bombthrowers are out before we start. Frankly, I can’t say I even know these posters, do you? Senate Republicans, like Sessions and Rand Paul, are planning a filibuster against any closed deal that cuts out the rest of the senate participating. Nothing goes anywhere until CUTS are addressed as $3.00 in cuts for every $1.00 of debt increase. So chill out.

BTW, how many here picked up the phone to call their legislatures and representatives? Hmmmmm.
