Perry knocks Obama’s handling of border security
Austin American-Statesman ^ | July 18, 2011 | Jason Embry

Speaking this morning to the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry returned to one of his favorite subjects over the last few years, saying the Obama administration has inappropriately handled security issues on the Texas-Mexico border.

Perry, who told the Des Moines Register in recent days that God may be calling him to run for president, has long said Washington has not deployed enough manpower to the Texas-Mexico border. He repeated that criticism this morning, saying he wants 3,000 Border Patrol agents along the border in Texas and 1,000 troops from the National Guard. He said the administration’s decision to send 286 troops last year was “grossly inadequate.”

“The federal government continues to turn a blind eye to this problem,” Perry said.

Last August, when President Barack Obama came to Austin for a fundraiser, Perry met him at the airport and tried to hand him a letter asking for National Guard troops. (He gave the letter to an Obama aide.) Perry later bragged in a re-election commercial that he had “confronted” Obama, showing footage of their brief encounter.

Last year, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano sent Perry a letter saying the Border Patrol was “better staffed” than at any time in its history, having increased from about 10,000 agents in 2004 to more than 20,000 in 2010.

Oh yes, my job keeps me in front of the screen and I force myself to give that extra little jaunt when I get up and active.

If I ever get like that, just shoot me.

Troll: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

Time and again you post about Rick Perry. It is as if you are a paid shill. Or just a shill.

If you are going to start thread after thread about Rick Perry like most other threads people are going to respond. Some not the way you like. That is the nature of the beast here. Frankly, all these Rick Perry posts by you are somewhat troll-like themselves because it is groundhog day with you when it comes to Perry. Same thing over and over.

If you are going to pimp Rick Perry around here expect some responses you don't like. When you get them maybe it might be wise not to try to call names because that goes both ways and in my view labeling you a shill or a pimp is starting to make sense.

So? Are you saying that only residents of border states are qualified to judge the immigration policies of politicians who aspire to national office?

Hardly.

I’m making the point that you don’t know, what you don’t know because you are removed, in great measure, from the situation we in border states have been left with, due to federal neglect and inaction, which has ENCOURAGED this continuous, no end in sight problem.

Funny how I never was called a "SHILL" when I was posting stuff like this.

Why do you think that is? I did a lot of that.

But I already told you, I’ve spent lots of time on the border.

Including in Texas.

And if you think Perry doesn’t fall into the wing of the Republican Party that thinks border security and immigration law enforcement are a joke, you’re fooling yourself.

Looked at your recent posts. Maybe the issue is that you are not posting "stuff like this" like you are "stuff" for Perry.

Why are you posting so much about Rick Perry?

I don’t think 0bama’s handling of the border is any worse than the way George W. Bush handled it. Bush was an absolute disaster.

I agree 100%.

However, Bush is not the topic in this thread.

Why are you posting so much about Rick Perry?

Why does it bother you so much?

I want to see Perry on the GOP primary trail.

I want to see him up against the others and get the best candidate to take on Obama, rally the voters and win the White House.

How about you?

It’s like seeing the same commercial over and over. After a couple of times it gets a bit redundant.

As far as Rick Perry goes I need to learn nothing more about him. I see him as a RINO and a lightweight. What you post does not bother me other than it is like stepping over the same crap time and again.

Now that you have made it clear that you are pushing Perry I understand what you are doing.

Since you know so much about him please explain to me what you think about all the cash Bob Perry has put in to Rick’s pockets and since Bob was against the sanctuary city law doesn’t it look bad that Perry could have pushed that bill through but did not. Rick Perry could bring that back in another special session along with the anti groping bill but won’t. Why not?

As far as other candidates go the only one that matters is Palin when it comes to Perry. Perry won’t jump in until he knows what Palin is going to do because Perry won’t stick his neck out. Palin is not Bill White or Kinky.

Me and some others have had the same thought. Would not be the first time. Just attack, attack, attack, nothing positive. I have asked “which candidate do they like” and no response. That’s why I started calling em coyotes, just hang out on the edge and howl. Some have been here for long time, makes you wonder about “sleeper cells”.

Business ie employers -- the big boogie men/women that UNIONS have to fight against, that "illegals" are exploited by, that politicians use as re-election cash machines -- the names the msm keep throwing against the wall in their fight against Governor Rick Perry: Charles Butts HEB - grocer (largest employer in Texas); Bob Perry (largest (?) homebuilder in Texas); Merck Pharmaceutical (Gardasil HPV vaccine, etc).

In the grand scheme of things you should research donations made to political action committees (PACs) and direct contributions that business make to ALL politicians. That's what lobbyists do. They prowl the halls of government buildings across the country. (Where do you think Barack Obama's $1Billion is coming from, the poor?)

Lobbyists start out in government--where they build up their rolodex. Then they move on to represent businesses who know it is required that they come hat in hand to pay tribute to the legislators who will be passing or not passing legislation that will be levying taxes and regulations upon them.

It is the nature of the beast -- why we need to have elected officials spend less time on the job and go home to work a real job. The Texas legislature meets every 2 years for 140 days (additional days if special sessions are called).

Rick Perry's platform in brief:

1. Don't spend all the money.

2. Have fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy.

3. A legal system that doesn't allow for over suing (lawsuit abuse) and make loser pay (no more jackpot justice).

With that as Rick Perry's platform and political ideology, I conclude that businesses contribute to Rick Perry to have less government entanglement in their business, which would do wonders for their bottom line -- their profits, their ability to expand and employ more people.

UNIONS and TRIAL LAWYERS are the bane of business but they are the top two fair haired children of BIG GOVERNMENT. However we don’t read editorials about their influence, do we?

And on to the campaign money “flowing” into Rick Perry’s pockets. Here’s what I found: In anticipation of the usual comments, I did a search for the 2010 contributions of HEB and Perry Homes and found:

2010 With the notable exception of Lamar Smith (R), mostly Democrat giving, including a PAC contribution for Sen Chuck Schumer (D-NY), also gave to Bill White (D) who lost in his 2010 gubenatorial challenge to Rick Perry – DIDN'T FIND Rick Perry: Charles Butt [HEB CEO] Political Campaign Contributions 2010 Election Cycle [HEB is the largest private company (grocer) in Texas]

2010 With the exception of $1K to Shelia Jackson-Lee and Gene Green -- both democrats, ALL GOP giving but DIDN'T FIND Rick Perry: Bob Perry Political Campaign Contributions 2010 Election Cycle -- Bobby Jack Perry (Bob J. Perry); Houston, Texas homebuilder, owner of Perry Homes, and major contributor to a number of 527 groups: Swift Vets and POWs for Truth and the Economic Freedom Fund. ---- In 2010, Perry donated $7 million to the 527 group American Crossroads -- largest single donation that the organization has received to date -- they primarily work to elect Republican legislators; is a member of the Heritage Club. Donated to Tom DeLay’s Texans for a Republican Majority and to Tom DeLay’s defense. In 2006, Perry was the largest political donor in Texas. 2006 donations included nearly $400,000 to the campaign of GOP Governor Rick Perry (no relation).

On a side note, HEB CEO Charles Butt is a piker compared to Perry Homes CEO Bob Perry's giving.

Merck: A FReeper claims a $6K contribution to Rick Perry. Merck has contributed Millions to politicians -- the list is very long.

The question is: Are they paying to get people into government who will keep government off their backs, or are they paying to grow government?

Business vs Unions.

Capitalism vs Socialism.

What makes the most sense?

Give your solution.

What can Rick Perry do as governor of Texas to make this problem go away?

........If you are going to pimp Rick Perry around here expect some responses you don't like. When you get them maybe it might be wise not to try to call names because that goes both ways and in my view labeling you a shill or a pimp is starting to make sense.

Perry, Social Conservatives and the Road to the Top ….."The party has evolved to where he had the ability to be more open about some of his views," says Susan Weddington, a former chairwoman of the Republican Party of Texas. "I think it's the party that's changed some — this is definitely in his political DNA."

"Rick Perry has continued to stand up. I think that's who the man is," says Cathie Adams, who has been a Texas GOP chairwoman, national committeewoman and head of the Texas Eagle Forum.

She, like others in the Perry fold, believes he's been consistently conservative on issues that matter to social and religious conservatives — most of the time. Like others, she says his support for a mandated vaccine against human papillomavirus was off pitch. HPV, which is sexually transmitted, is the leading cause of cervical cancer; Perry wanted to require the shots for all 12-year-old girls in Texas, unless their parents opted out.

"I worked against HPV," Adams says. "I don't think he was ill-intended on that. He could have listened to more voices."

State Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, agrees with that — "where he shot himself in the foot was a couple of sessions ago with that vaccination thing" — but also says Perry's place as the party's standard-bearer is safe.

"I've talked especially with the Tea Party people," he says. "If you want to say on the correct side of them, you need to stick with Perry."……….
