I know many of my fellow Freepers will understand my request. Please say a special prayer for a great dog who went to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. He blessed us with 13 years of loyalty, happiness, love, and security. We are heartbroken we couldn't take the pains and debilitating problems of old age from him, but we were able to end his suffering before it got worse. He was proof that angels all don't have wings, some have fur and four legs. As a child I had always had dogs growing up, but my mother would never allow me to have a German Sheppard because she was afraid of them. After I found him near my house, the vet informed me he had been born one year to the day my mother passed away. When my daughter was born, many people told us to get rid of him because he was 11 then and they said he would hurt the baby since he wasn't used to being around kids. That was absolute nonsense. The first time she was sick, he sensed something before it started and came running into the room and stood right at my feet as I was holding her. That night, and many after, when I was trying to get her to sleep by walking her, he was right behind me, all through the night. He would sleep by her crib (his usual place was at the foot of our bed) and keep watch over her. When she woke up, he stuck his nose through the bars for her to pet him. Whenever my daughter got scared of anything, he would run to her side and lean so she could hug him and he always calmed her fears. He also calmed my fears when my husband was away. The first thought my daughter has in the morning is of her puppy dog. This past Christmas, when she woke up she wasn't interested in what Santa Claus had brought her, she wanted to make sure her puppy dog was in the house and he was ok. But now his dog house is empty, his bowls are dry, and his leash hangs in the garage.
I understand your pain. We lost a beloved pet 11 yrs ago.
We were devastated.
We decided to honor her memory by going to the pound and saving another furbaby. We have had Missy now for 11 yrs and she has been a delight.
don’t think for a minute that dogs in a pound don’t know what happens if they don’t find a home. We got her at PetsMart after a local pound had brought her there for adoption.
When we went to our local pound to arrange for her papers, she cried and was so upset, you could tell she was afraid of going back to a pound.
Think about it.....another dog might help your family honor your dog’s memory and make new memories with your new pet.
Prayers and good wishes coming your way, MissEdie. I know you are in a lot of pain. It really hurts. I completely understand how this dog came to you during a dark time. Many, many, wonderful pets seem to do just that! Whether it is fate or the mysterious workings of Our Lord.. I don’t know but an animal can sometimes do what humans fail to do. Bless you and yours during this difficult time.

My wife and I had a hard time in 2009 losing our little corgi to lymphoma @ the too-soon age of 5. I know what it’s like to get wrapped up in a pet. It does get better with time. You will be in our prayers. Take care.

You are absolutely in our prayers. We’ve been there and know what you’re going through. I second the other Freeper’s suggestion that when the time is right you consider adopting a rescue. Hang in there.

I’m so sorry. On Christmas Eve i had to put down my beloved standard poodle at the age of 15. She had cancer in her nose, had undergone radiation, and unfortunately the symptoms came back after an almost 1 year reprieve. It was for her sake, not mine, that I had her put down and it was easily one of the worst days of my life. I still miss her everyday.
Now I have a 9 month old standard poodle puppy, with an entirely different personality and she keeps me on my toes. Probably I got another dog too soon - needed more time to mourn but I was an emotional wreck. It took a while but finally the puppy has her own separate place in my heart.
I know what you’re going through. Time does help. Hugs to you.
I completely understand your loss. We lost one of our furry kids this past May, and my wife and I both shed many tears.
Over the years, I have come to know that dogs will take whatever time and love we have to spare, and in return they will give us every ounce of love and devotions they posses.
As the old saying does, "One day I hope to be as good a person as my dog thinks I am."

We had a burial and prayer over her. and a couple of hours later, we decided to go see if there was one similar to her in size and breed at the SPCA,
There was! in a separate room off to the side was an 18 month old minarture poodle, this one is black. We felt God had him waiting there for us. He is a delight, and we love him very much. No dog replaces another dog; but there are dogs that we could love and rescue, and they are happy to have a home and people that love them. They sound the alarm when needed, and are excellent company.
VERY HAPPY WE DID THAT.

Reading your post, I can see why you are struggling with the loss. What a nice tribute. You cared for him and he knew he was loved. Hopefully, this grief stricken time will be shortened - he wouldn’t want you to be sad. Dogs are indeed very special animals - and your’s seemed tailored made for you/your family. God is good!
