The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man, whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 91 people dead. Multimedia

He is being questioned under the country’s terrorism laws and is cooperating with the investigation, they said.

“We are not sure whether he was alone or had help,” a police official, Roger Andresen, said at a televised press conference, adding: “What we know is that he is right-wing and a Christian fundamentalist.” So far Mr. Breivik has not been linked to any anti-jihadist groups, he said.

The speed of response when dealing with things posted here that are not correct amazes me.

excellent point Sir!

the MSM, with paid reviewers, proofreaders, editors, continually make fundamental mistakes (or outright lies)
that they rarely admit even when caught.

FR is so accurate, i don’t even watch FOX anymore. their news is too slow and incomplete, to be worth the time!

“The amount of information that is already available on Breivik is ringing my smell test alarm. None of his background associations indicate this type of atrocity.”

Unless he’s just a highly accomplished nut-job.

On the other hand, did you see the link provided by Strategerist, where Breivik refers positively to the Tea Party in his very first post? I don’t follow European politics, but this seems odd.

So the press helicopter is supposed to figure out that the “cop” is actually the killer, turn around, fly back to an airport, pick up a police/military sniper who just happens to be armed and ready, fly back to the island, reacquire the “cop” target (and not hitting any other cops that might also be there via boat), and take him out from the sky (the newly acquired sniper being an expert at shooting from a helicopter also). I’m sure that’s an easy task done in a minute or two. /sarcasm.

Reactions always take time. And reactions to unexpected new events take longer. Look at 9/11, passengers on the fourth flight reacted to the new threat. But it still took them time to figure that out. And they had the knowledge of the earlier attacks to help them make that change. The half hour or ninety minutes it takes for people to adjust is a lot of time for a determined man to kill a lot of people.

o what type of “Christian Extremist” literature do you think they found? A Bible?

- - - - -
From the article, they said he had ‘Christian’ listed as his religious views and ‘conservative’ as his political views on his Facebook page.

Yeah, like that is reliable source /sarc

I stepped up my game on that earlier this year. I’ve had a carry license forever, and did a fair amount, but would get slack in warm weather.

Reactions do take time.

But they knew they had a big enough story to dispatch the helicopter in the first place and, to be big enough, they must have had information from the young people tweeting from the site about a gun man.

If they had that much info, which they would have had to have to dispatch coverage in the first place, what did they do other than simply time to cover a story of a mass murder.

Maybe that is their only job. I suppose that is one argument. But to say they didn't know a mass murder was going on is unlikely or they wouldn't have sent the helicopter in the first place.

“suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views”

If he had anti-Muslim views curious way to show it in mowing down christian kids. Did he take out a Mosque? Of course not. Did he seek out Muslims? Of course not. Sounds like another wack job but who knows. Don’t trust any “official” version though.

One striking thought is that the shooter was unconcerned that he was being observed by the media helicopter. You’d think he’d be shooting at it as well. But, no. He wanted photos out in the world.

So, there is a propaganda angle. Whose? On the one hand, I get a sort of Assange vibe from this guy personally. Assange was, what, a sort of anarcho-somthing or other? Breivik does not look like a conservative, a fundamentalist or a Christian, he looks like an ageing urban hipster-wannabee in the photos I’ve seen, rather effete.

OK, so we have an element of staging for effect. We have a very recent, three day old Facebook page, not just in English but in the American idiom. Guns, purported conservative fundamentalist Christian, terrorist attack. Right down the line on the DHS narrative.

IMHO, he’s militant leftist and wanted to discredit his enemies, to provoke a backlash against them, is where I’m leaning this morning. Last night, I was thinking somewhat along these lines, but accepted that he actually was opposed to Muslim immigration, and that he actually was the Norwegian equivalent of a conservative.

No, he’s not.

Interesting Snip,

Lars M,

tell me one country where Muslims have lived peacefully
with non-Muslims without the Jihad against Kafr
(dhimmitude, systematic slaughter or demographic warfare)?

could name 40 countries / areas where this has had catastrophic
consequences for non-Muslims. Can you please name ONE
single example where it has managed
to assimilate the Muslims?

You seem limitless naive. Of course, some integrate but it
is completely the result that counts (everything else is irrelevant).

How many thousands of new Europeans must die,
how many one hundred thousand European women
should be raped, millions robbed and tractor discarded
before you understand that multiculturalism + Islam does not work?

Why do you think Norway will be the first country in the
world for the last 1400 years in which this will succeed?

History repeats itself forever.

Thanks for the reminder.

From article from “Time”:

“Norway’s al-Qaeda Arrests: Terrorism’s Changing Face”
By Bruce Crumley

“Officials in Norway on Thursday, July 8, said they have arrested three men with ties to al-Qaeda suspected of “preparing terror activities.” It was unclear if their targets were to be in Norway or elsewhere. The men — one of whom was apprehended in Germany — were described as two legal Norwegian residents and a naturalized citizen. They are thought to have been planning bombing attacks similar to — and apparently linked to — last September’s averted suicide strike on the New York City subway system. On Wednesday, British police arrested a man suspected of involvement in what authorities revealed had been a plan thwarted in April 2009 to bomb downtown Manchester, in northern England. U.S. officials said the Manchester and New York City plots were “directly related,” and initial indicators suggest the Norwegian operation was connected to those as well.
(See pictures of Osama bin Laden.)

“We believe this group has had links to people abroad who can be linked to al-Qaeda and to people who are involved in investigations in other countries, among others the United States and Britain,” Janne Kristiansen, head of Norway’s Police Security Service, said at a press conference in Oslo on Thursday. Though relatively little information about the suspects was given, Kristiansen did say they included a 39-year-old Uighur from China, a 37-year-old Iraqi and a 31-year-old Uzbek. Kristiansen also said authorities decided to move on the suspects after more than a year of surveillance to beat pending media coverage that could have led them to flee.

So how does the Norwegian operation tie into last year’s prevented New York City subway strike? As in the New York plot, authorities believe, the operatives planning attacks in Norway and Manchester intended to use portable bombs made with peroxide. All three attacks are thought by U.S. officials to have been ordered by Salah al-Somali, an alleged al-Qaeda terrorism planner believed to have been killed in a drone hit in northwest Pakistan last year. The suspect in Wednesday’s U.K. bust — Abid Naseer, a 24-year-old ethnic Pakistani — is known to have been in Pakistan at the same time as Afghan native Najibullah Zazi, who is in prison after pleading guilty to planning to carry out the thwarted New York City subway attack. U.S. prosecutors say both Naseer and Zazi had been directed in their plotting via e-mail by an al-Qaeda facilitator in Pakistan referred to as “Ahmad.” U.S. investigators speculate that many of the plotters in the three foiled strikes may have been recruited to al-Qaeda’s cause by 34-year-old Saudi native Adnan el Shukrijumah, who was also indicted in Zazi’s case.
