Cantor to GOP: Quit whining and vote

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) delivered a blunt message to the Republican Conference Tuesday morning: Quit the “grumbling” and “whining” and come together to rally behind Speaker John Boehner to pass his debt ceiling plan.

Cantor’s heavy rhetoric came out in a closed session at the Capitol Hill Club as the GOP majority tried to whip up support for Boehner’s latest deficit package. Cantor summed up what he knew many Republicans were thinking as they head into another critical vote.

The debt limit vote sucks,” he said, according to an attendee of the closed meeting. But Republicans have three options, Cantor said: risk default, pass Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) plan — which he thinks gives President Barack Obama a blank check — or “call the president’s bluff” by passing the Boehner plan, which not only cuts deeply into domestic spending but calls for a bipartisan commission to find more savings.

Damned straight! There is not one single testicle in the whole damned crowd. They still can’t keep their focus on anything but reelection.

At least this way we at least can gain the narrative, deny Obama even the remotest chance at what he would call a victory

The debt ceiling will have been raised, the deficit will grow, there will be no plan to get our economy under control. There's no way you can spin it, this will be a huge victory for Obama.

There would be no default. “Default” in the financially relevant sense would be failing to pay amounts owed our lenders.

For political purposes (i.e. to frighten the uniformed), the meaning of “default” has been distorted to mean that prior appropriations to spend money on cowboy poetry, ethanol subsidies, Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, government housing, Michele’s travels, etc. would not be funded. A failure to do the things that would be defunded wouldn’t be noticed by most people, especially those “pulling the wagon”. Welfare recipients, however, would get less than they are accustomed to. Sharpton and the rest would probably have a hissy fit and organize demonstrations and semi-riots. Bear in mind, though, the welfare state will end sooner or later, and it is much less damaging if it is sooner.

“It’s going to happen eventually, and the longer we put it off, the worse it will be”

It’s a matter of when, not if. These DC Hacks have already shown they are incapable of saving this country. If they are not capable, only two options remain.

1. Replace them with new members who will save this country.

2. This country collapses under the spending we cannot maintain.

It’s anybody’s guess which one will come first.

Personally, I want a shutdown.

But as I’ve said in many threads, my interest here is mostly out of curiosity. Like a child watching a spider squirm after you’ve pulled all the legs off.

This problem is like a bus traveling at 50 MPH towards a concrete wall 30 feet ahead. And these numbsculls in DC are voting on how to best apply the brakes. But it really doesn’t matter. There is going to be a “rapid acceleration” very soon no matter what they do.

That is why I bought a small farm in central Kentucky in late October of 2008, moved virtually all my stuff there in July of 2010, drove one of my cars out there stuffed with most of the rest of my stuff three weeks ago and will be driving my last car out there packed with anything else I want next week.

I’ve quit my Seattle job (Seattle was my home since the mid-1960’s) and start a new job in Kentucky when I arrive there. I can be very self sufficient on that farm.

This economic crisis is gonna end badly no matter what the government does. The time for “effective” action passed years ago. And the rest of the world is in pretty much the same boat. It’s called “Mystery Babylon”.

My tag line is ~two years old.

“It comes down to the people in this room,” Boehner said, according to a source present. “It comes down to the willingness to stand together. This is the path to victory for the American people.”

Hey John, another "debt commission" made up of six RINOs and six Rats is NOT a path to victory for the American people.

I agree. You are right. If the Senate will not pass them, they mean jack squat, we go into default and Obama gets to choose how to spend 200 billion per month. Sound good to you?

Just once I’d like to see these GOP leaders show the courage of their convictions, just once.

Of course, maybe I’ve got their convictions all wrong.

>>They still can’t keep their focus on anything but reelection.<<

That is why the seeds for this meltdown were sowed decades ago. I used to say that the country is like the proverbial worker with his arm hopelessly caught in a piece of machinery that is slowly pulling him in. The only solution is to pull out his pocket knife and cut off his arm, or he is going in and will be crushed alive.

But nobody has the political will (or at least not enough do) to commit such a sacrifice. The worker is going in, kicking and screaming.

And to clarify about my farm: It doesn’t mean I will not be affected. It is not a risk eliminator. It is merely a risk reducer. I still have my six kids and four grandchildren to think about after I am there and they are still stuck in the cities. There will be personal sorrow no matter what happens - for all of us.

If we go into default, the only money that the government has to spend is the approximately 200 billion that it takes in taxes. Obama wouold get to choose how that gets spent. You are ok with that?

Default? Not like you to use the enemy’s propaganda words.

Also you completely ignored my post. The senate would pass CCB if they believed it was their only choice.
