Stars Aligning For Emergence Of New Reagan
IBD Editorials ^ | July 26, 2011 | J. T. YOUNG

Republicans don't need another Reagan to win the White House in 2012. What's more, if they do win, they may not even need another Reagan to govern like Reagan in 2013.

Too many Republicans are listening too hard to their critics and not enough at the circumstances shaping the candidates, the race . .. and the four years that will follow.

That Republicans would love to have Reagan back is no surprise. He was one of our greatest presidents and our most recent great one. He was also the epitome of modern conservatism.

Compared to his accomplishments, everything else seems small. He defeated the Soviet Union; we struggle with terrorists. He righted a terrible economy; we can't seem to get a recovery out of neutral. He was unshakable in his principles; today, principles seem rare.

But before Republicans let their gaze turn backward, they need to look forward to how favorable and influential current circumstances could be.

First, their field of presidential candidates is amply qualified to produce a serious contender. The scorn with which the media regard it should be a badge of honor, not a mark of shame. Remember: They dismissed Reagan too. In the end, the race for the nomination will elevate someone who will look presidential.

More important, current prospects are more favorable than Republicans dare imagine. A June 27 Gallup poll showed Obama's approval rating at just 43% vs. a 49% disapproval rating. A recent Pew Research poll shows why.

Two-thirds (67%) of respondents said Obama's policies had made things worse or had no effect on today's economic conditions; just 27% said they'd made things better. Looking ahead, 67% again said economic conditions would be worse or the same a year from now; just 29% said conditions would be better.

C’mon, Pelham. Get a grip. You sound like Pissant pushing Duncan Hunter. There are many good conservatives out there. I’m a good conservative. I actually believe I would make a good president. But I’m not running because I know I have less chance even than Duncan Hunter or “this McCotter guy”.

Give it up, man.

Don’t go chasing Pissant rainbows.

I agree with the title, and her name is Sarah Palin.

But the author obviously doesn’t agree with his own (or his head-line-writer’s) title.

Where in the article does he right one word that is not the exact opposite of the title?

He says there will be no new Reagan and we don’t need a new Reagan.

Who wrote the title? Who wrote the article? One moron, or two?

-—— chasing Pissant rainbows.-——

oooohh!! what a wonderful statement.

What a succinct grouping of words to describe the efforts of so many who struggle so hard to prevail.

It proves the adage

No one is so worthless as to not serve as a horrible example

RIP pissant

I’m not sure why my asking for opinions about McCotter is an occasion for you to get exercised, but I hope you enjoyed the opportunity to write a post about it.

As for pissant, I know very little about him other than his colorful name. So I’ll leave his legacy to you.
