Sorry, but I disagree with the assessment that the 22 No-voters are “heroes” in this situation. There are times when you have to “cooperate and compromise” and I feel this was one of them. It’s fine to have HIGH IDEALS but our country is going down the tubes and those of us who are trying to save it have to stick together—and it is especially important to show a UNITED FRONT against the DEMO-maniacs.
I’m not trying to start an argument or even a debate on this so much as expressing a personal “uninformed” opinion based simply on common sense. When you are going under for the third time, you don’t waste time and energy fantasizing about some more ideal vacation spot—you do what you have to do to get your head above water. There’ll be time for those high-flying IDEALS later on, unless you DROWN NOW. —Just my opinion.
Besides, I went to school with that blockhead Tim Johnson and he was a pompous jacka$$ then and hasn’t apparently improved with age!

Funny you use that analogy. If you are drowning you don’t keep breathing water. If you are deep in a hole, you stop digging. The Boehner Bill sets us up for more water and an ever deeper hole.
Congressman Gowdy was right. CUT CAP and Balance WAS the compromise. No one but the House GOP “led” by Boehner is dumb enough to bid against itself out of fear of a 40% President.
Your post brings to mind something I read somewhere........
Choose this day whom you will serve, as for me and my household.....
This is the line of thinking that nearly kept Britain out of WWII and Churchill from coming to power. Would all have worked out well if the Appeasers in power then and their German whisperers had succeeded?
My point is that some Americans have become convinced there is really only one party in this country now and that party is composed of two lineups, Team A which is in power currently, and Team B the Appeasers, which sometimes are in power.
The 2010 elections were a strong attempt to get better public servants onto Team B, to begin setting things right, the way a good many Americans still believe Government should function Constitutionally.
Regardless if some of the 22 had knees knocking, they DID vote No, which their constituents expected them to do.
Nobody, but NOBODY, is “going down for the third time” here.
The world as we know it is NOT going to go up in flames if the debt ceiling is not raised by Monday.
But spending money you don’t have, or won’t get in the foreseeable future, WILL eventually result in disaster.
If the line is not drawn now, then when?. If not by the heroic 22, then who?
To my South Carolina representatives: BRAVO!
Adding trillions in debt to our economic catastrophe is not they way to get America’s “head above water”. Bob
Obama gets a trillion dollars in more borrowed money to immediately spend, and in exchange we get a trillion dollars in theoretical make-believe spending cuts that will supposedly happen over the next 10 years, even though future Congresses are under no obligation to honor them? You have a warped definition of the word "compromise".
