Senate kills Boehner debt ceiling plan

The Senate voted to kill a House-approved bill to raise the debt ceiling, leaving the ball in the court of Senate leadership to produce a deficit reduction bill, with just days before the Aug. 2 deadline. The vote was 59-41.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid followed through on his promise to kill the bill, pushed through the House a day late by House Speaker John Boehner. The White House, which has thrown its weight behind a Reid proposal, had promised to veto the bill had it miraculously passed the Senate.

The Senate also killed the Cut, Cap, Balance Act last Friday and has yet to vote on a formal proposal. Having passed two proposals and with little appetite and time to attempt another bill, the House now waits to act on a Senate bill.

“I stuck my neck out a mile to get an agreement with the president of the United States,” Boehner thundered from the floor after the vote. “It’s time for the administration and time for our colleagues across the aisle to put something on the table. Tell us where you are!”

Brad Dayspring, spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, announced via Twitter that the House will vote on Reid’s plan Saturday to show that it is “not capable of passing.” First votes are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

We laready know what`s gonna happen.

The Reid/McConnell/Boehner Bill will pass, Obama will sign it in front of his fake greek columns, claim he saved the Republic and carry his grand victory and superb leadership into the 2012 election.

And Boehner will cry himself to sleep tonight.

Yup...and set about punishing the Tea Party 'renegades.'

And not long after it passes, that "no balls so we kick the can down the road" compromise bill will be yesterday's news when our credit rating is downgraded by major ratings agencies. (if it must happen, have it happen on Obama's birthday)

It ain't over til it's over.

I'm calling every over the cliff Democratic Senator tomorrow morning and give them an ear full. Tried tonight but “offices are closed for the day”.

Also going to hit up Blue Dog Dems with what has a Democrat done for us lately?

Same with Moderate Republicans (ie. Brown) as to whose your Daddy!

I'm tired just tired of giving up and letting the Dems have it there way. At least when I go to bed at night I can let God know I tried!

Of course, the Senate cannot originate a bill that levies taxes, so they have to come up with a naked debt ceiling rise or a debt ceiling rise and spending-cuts only bill of their own to send to the House, which should then proceed to amend it to include all the cuts in the Senate bill, plus double the difference between it and the just-rejected House bill so that splitting the difference in conference committee gets back the Boehner bill (or at least the level of cuts found in it).

The Do Nothing Senate, still doing nothing! Table, table, table. Too cowardly to even vote "no". Looks like Reid won't let his own bill come up for a vote tonight so the workhorse house will vote on the Reid bill before the Senate.

Leading from behind like Dear Leader

Sad day. 18 Heroes in the House tried, several in the Senate will have tried.

I think the time has come to bury a time capsule for a future generation to find and learn about the United States of America. Filled with materials that describe how the United States used to be a Republic, used to follow the Constitution, and citizens used to embrace individualism and liberty.

Bbbbbbbbut, Laura Ingraham said this vote was so important and Sarah Palin and the Tea Party was ruining it.

The vote was 59-41.

The party split is 53-47.

Sniff, sniff. I smell RINOs. I want names.

This is key. Let Reid play with himself now. The House will give him a reality check tomorrow.

This is not over. And I think the House would prefer to have the August 2 deadline pass than to pass an awful bill.

You didn't see this coming? This is the Reid, McConnal, Boehner, Obama plan.

THIS was the friggin' set up all along. The Tea Party just provided drama and put off the outcome for an additional day or so.

Theater baby!

Six Republicans joined Democrats to table the Boehner resolution were Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Orrin Hatch (Utah), Mike Lee (Utah), Rand Paul (Ky.), and David Vitter (La.).

Cool! This will be a Kabuki dance for the ages.

Really read the PIG BOOK it is a real eye opener to the quid por quo donor palm greasing.

It does not even contain entitlement fraud, illegals on USA entitlements.

And not one word of REFORM from the MASTERS in DC.

In all fairness, the Speaker did not cry today, made a forceful speech railing the Senate and the President, and, as Drudge headlined, put the ball in the Senate’s court.

Now is the time to get behind DeMint and other such Senators and support their efforts to make sure this bill STAYS in the Senate as long as possible. If kept in the Senate past August 2nd, then one can watch as the cracks form in the supposedly impenetrable Demoncratic Party front line. In other words, CALL THEIR BLUFFS OVER AND OVER.

Well...it COULD happen.
