Senate kills Boehner debt ceiling plan

The Senate voted to kill a House-approved bill to raise the debt ceiling, leaving the ball in the court of Senate leadership to produce a deficit reduction bill, with just days before the Aug. 2 deadline. The vote was 59-41.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid followed through on his promise to kill the bill, pushed through the House a day late by House Speaker John Boehner. The White House, which has thrown its weight behind a Reid proposal, had promised to veto the bill had it miraculously passed the Senate.

The Senate also killed the Cut, Cap, Balance Act last Friday and has yet to vote on a formal proposal. Having passed two proposals and with little appetite and time to attempt another bill, the House now waits to act on a Senate bill.

“I stuck my neck out a mile to get an agreement with the president of the United States,” Boehner thundered from the floor after the vote. “It’s time for the administration and time for our colleagues across the aisle to put something on the table. Tell us where you are!”

Brad Dayspring, spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, announced via Twitter that the House will vote on Reid’s plan Saturday to show that it is “not capable of passing.” First votes are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

You listening to these three dipwads? What a farce! None of Boehners bills have been voted on because Reid killed them...what are they whinning about!

I don’t think Reid has the votes to get ‘his bill’ thru....

"Reid just said if they (the House) don’t accept HIS BILL 100%, then it’s default city."

Reid and Obama just betrayed McConnell and Boner.

And immediate stab in the back. Whatever dirty deal they cut about compromise in committee was just negated! Only a couple of hours after Boner forced 220 Republicans to walk the plank!!!!!!!!!

Sheesh, You would have thought these dumb bastards would have seen this coming.

If Boner doesn't adjourn the House tonight he'll go down FOREVER in the annuls of "Greatest Quislings in History"!

Wasn’t this a vote to TABLE the bill? If so, they would’ve been voting NO to NOT table the bill. My understanding is that NOT tabling the bill would make it subject to cloture, meaning it could have bee filibustered.

Pass Boehner’s new, changed bill.
Conquer the MSM by going over their heads to reach the people.
In 2012 election write another bill for C,C, & B because you can’t control future congresses...when we OWN THE SENATE, then we get the real change.

We keep on this purist path right now, Obama wins and makes us look like those who hurt the people.

Unfortunately, most are are simply purists, not pragmatist purists. We need to be (I am) the latter because of political realities. Small steps get it done no matter how drastic the steps required seem.

Am I as angry at the dems and Obama as you? You bet.
The new Boehner bill that was improved by the Tea Partiers ultimately will solidify our side’s bonds...I would have liked to have seen 100% voting for it, however.

It does not even contain entitlement fraud, illegals on USA entitlements.

The very things that got us into this mess in the first place. The taxpayers, the slave labor, will have to labor more, and labor longer, while the freeloaders continue to live a comfortable, stress free, relaxing life.

Starve that frigging beast. We can live without Washington's money, but Washington can't live without ours. Legally avoid any and all taxes like a plague. Make it a way of life!

>> NAYs 23

Of those 23, a handful changed from Yea once the bill was sure to pass without their feckless support. So, it’s more like 15 clearheaded thinkers.

The fact that they are voting on this tomorrow tells me that they are far smarter than Rush and others give them credit for. This is like reaching over the net and spiking the ball before it is served. I am beginning to think Boehner is being underestimated.

Reid just said if they (the House) don’t accept HIS BILL 100%, then it’s default city.

Let her rip then!

If that's what it takes to get the country back on fiscal track then let the default come.

The damage has already been done by the criminal spending in the past, the default is just the end result of it.

Perhaps then we can clean house and get some sanity in Washington.

Do you even understand what is going on here? This is a war.

I don't....Reid said they should be allowed an up or down vote...but they tabled them! The work has been done by the Republicans so what's their complaint? He's bellyaching baout a filibuster...but there is none...where?

This country takes another step toward civil war/revolution. The Democrats, especially the Liberal Messiah, don’t care about what happens to the People; they just want victory. When they call for “compromise” they are demanding the Republicans unconditionally surrender.

...all the drama is bad for Obozo.

Doubt it... The MSM frames the debate and thus exalts BHO as the 'savior', the TP as the 'terrorists'.

A cogent argument could have easily been made, but wasn't even attempted.

When the economy is finally admitted to be in a tailspin, who gets the blame and will it even matter? We NEEDED a spokesman, not co-conspirators. Just sayin"....

My take on it is that nothing Reid has a part in will pass.

Did he say that on TV??? Thanks to all of you posting what’s happening. I can’t watch. I can’t even listen to any of their voices anymore as it gets me too angry.

Boehner should adjourn the House, send them home and if the Senate passes his bill there is an increase and if they don’t there isn’t.

And all of the media will be running headlines of hypocrite Republicans for not passing the bill they passed before.

It’s all a charade and the spineless GOP moderates lose, every time, along with America.

"I am beginning to think Boehner is being underestimated."

He's either really friggin' smart and taking the Dims to school, or he's a traitor to the conservative cause.

We'll know within the week.

I haven't been following Laura I’s take on this mess...but I have listened to her in the past and agreed with a lot she says. I disagreed with a few things, too.

But, even though she went to a good school, she got there on her own...her mom was a waitress. That is one reason I've always liked Laura...she is so proud of her Mom (now passed) and always brags about what a fantastic person she was.

So....maybe she is way off base on this topic with the debt ceiling...but she is no trust fund kid.
