Budget Deal Doesn’t Cut Spending
The Cato Institute ^ | Aug 1, 2011 | Chris Edwards

House Speaker John Boehner’s bullet points on the deal say that it cuts discretionary spending by $917 billion over 10 years, as “certified by CBO.” These discretionary “cuts” appear to be the same as those in Boehner’s plan from last week. The chart shows CBO’s scoring of those spending cuts (see here and here).

Am I wrong? didn't the house just pass a bill creating a Polit Bureau and doesn't this same bill deem everything this PB does as passed?

I just emailed and faxed my reps my August 1, 2011 Update to my letter to each of them about the debt ceiling regarding this so-called "deal":

Senators Crapo and Ritsch, and Representative Labrador,

The "deal" with the dems is no deal.

Vote no.

It cedes the congressional responsibility on debt ceiling to the President unless a 2/3rds majority overrules it. I do not believe that is constitutional. it seems that most of the so-called "cuts" are coming from cutting the rate of future spending...which means they are not cuts at all. As to tax cuts, the Dems plan to allow the Bush tax cuts to end, thereby raising everyone's taxes.

I expect, per my letter of July 28th, my representatives to hold true to a common sense, obvious, sane economic line.

Do so, and live a balanced budget, or we the voters will find someone who will.

Do not borrow any more. The default scare tactics are a fallacy and a lie. We have more than enough revenue to cover it, to cover our military, social security and medicare. Start cutting from there to have us fall within the 200 billion we bring in.

Cut spending drastically to within our means and income.

Cap spending to a modest rate of GNP that would allow for a balanced budget in five years minimum in any case.

Pass the balanced budget amendment and send it to the states.

My vote hinges on these things...and the other things I always look to (fundamental moral principle, abiding the constitution according to the intent of those who wrote it, defense of this nation and its borders, defense of the unborn, and holding firm on the 2nd amendment)>

Sincerely,

Jeff Head

Exxxxxxactly. That’s what I’ve been asking.

If there are equal cuts in comparison to the increase in new debt ceiling, then why increase the debt ceiling?

It’s really insulting how stupid they think we are.

Yep, imaginary spending cuts vs. more spending and real tax increases, great compromise!

The entrenched politicians have been doing this to use for decades: They are peeing on us and telling us it is raining.

The problem is too many voters believe them.

We need to hammer this into the minds of everyone out there when the 2012 elections come up and boot every single one of them out of office. It may be too late by then, but then again we may be able to take drastic measures and get our Country back if we vote real Americans in.

Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX) speaking on Hannity's radio show (Aug 1, hour 2, 2nd quarter hour) says he got a private commitment from Boehner (and Paul Ryan who Gohmert expects to be on the Select Committee) to bring a *critical* change to a vote.

That change will do away with baseline budgeting (with its 7.5% automatic increases) and move to zero-base budgeting.

With zero-base budgeting all departments start at $0 each budget year and must justify the full budget request.

If passed it would be GAME-CHANGING. That's a bill to look out for this year.

The vote will put Dems & RINOs on record for wanting the status quo of automatic increases.

Gohmert says Ryan supports the change and Boehner said several times publicly last week it's a budgeting change he'd like to see happen.

We said; cut, cut, cut. But it looks like we got; spend, spend, spend. A hamburger today for payment later.

We add another trillion each year to the $14.4 trillion debt and pretend this is responsible?

Once you go off a cliff you can't stop halfway down, and the DeathCare bill that Zer0 and Nancy put in place might finish us off.

BOHIC-A!

How much of this final deal was worked out weeks ago between Obama, Boehner, McConnell, Pelosi, and Reid?

The economy is off the table until after the 2012 election and there's no commitment for a BBA. Is that about right? Fire Boehner for not stopping this.

This was never about stopping the spending. Boehner screwed up with the CR in December 2010 and he screwed up with Boehner 2.0. They should have passed 'Cut, Cap and Balance' as many times as necessary, putting the ball in Cowboy Reid's court until he cries 'uncle.'

Boehner's Blue Pill
''The best advise I can give you all is to ignore any symptoms and ignore all the concerns from taxpayers
that will arise after taking your blue pill medication. That $14 trillion deficit is just the status quo.
So 'eat your peas,' ... and steer for the cliff!'' /sarc

” Do you actually believe this country will survive until the next election? I hope it does but I’m not convinced.” <<<<

hotair.com, allipundit or whoever, has it laid out very well for my apptitude for understanding. The only hope for winning the election is by exposing the whole story succinctly to the dang Independents, who the polls say pine for “balance” and “fairness”. Hells bells, they must be half marxist themselves and they are going to decide the next election. We have to win the middle and convince them of collapse. I’m afraid we’re cooked long term no matter who is elected actually.

Until Base Line Budgeting is outlawed and the Congress has to appropriate every penny and BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR IT there will be no solving this heroin-like craving that the 536 goons in Washington have perpetrated on the children of this country...

The budget deal WILL cut revenue to the government when the marginal tax rates go up. And Republicans will get the credit for the tax rise. This, and most of the rest of the Deal is meant as re-election insurance for the kenyanmugabe and was voted on with that end in view, by Republicans as well as Democrats.

Today, Speaker Boehner should throw out base-line budgeting ASAP, from here on out; zero-based budgeting, start from zero, make Congress justify every expenditure.
