Critical Sarah Palin documentary to make September debut
CBS News ^ | 08/04/11 | Lucy Madison

Just months after the Iowa premiere of the pro-Sarah Palin documentary "The Undefeated," the world will get a glimpse of the former Alaska Governor from a different - and likely more critical - cinematic perspective: In September, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield, who directed "Kurt & Courtney" and "Biggie & Tupac," will debut "Sarah Palin - You Betcha!" at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which runs from Sept. 8-18.

Unlike the flattering portrait of Palin touted in "The Undefeated," which was made with the former vice presidential candidate's cooperation by a conservative filmmaker, Broomfield's goal was "cracking her story," as a release for the film put it, even though "people are frightened to talk.

It’s a film festival. Nothing else. There will be at most a few showings to the festival type goer. Whether it will open commercially remains to be seen. Part of getting festival showings is to create buzz to get a distributor.

Leftist Groupthink Template:

I Thou shalt create an illusion of invulnerability shared by most members to foster excessive optimism and encourage extreme risks taking

II Thou shall not allow any member to question the group’s inherent morality, instead members shall be encouraged to ignore the ethical or moral consequences of their decisions

III Thou shalt promote collective efforts to rationalize in order to discount warnings, or other information that might lead members to reconsider their assumptions before they recommit themselves to their assumptions

IV Thou shalt reinforce stereotyped views of enemy leaders as too evil to warrant genuine attempts to negotiate, or as too weak and stupid to counter whatever risky attempts are made to defeat their purpose

V Thou shalt self-censor any deviation from the apparent group consensus, inclining each member to minimize the importance of their doubts and counterarguments

VI Thou shalt create and maintain a shared illusion of unanimity concerning judgement conforming to the majority view

VII Thou shalt apply direct pressure on any member who expresses strong arguments against any of the group’s stereotypes, illusions, or commitments, making clear that this type of dissent is contrary to what is expected of all loyal members

VIII Thou shalt appoint mindguards to protect the group from adverse information that might shatter their shared complacency about the effectiveness and morality of their decisions

Yes, I understand that, but still............big whoop; not!

The MSM will trash Palin, praise the film, and almost nobody will go see it.

Anyone want to bet that those who were afraid to talk are the same cast of losers and haters that play the same role in anything that is anti-Palin?

Some are mentioned in this article:

Nicholas “Nick” Broomfield (born 1948) is an English documentary film-maker. He is the son of Maurice Broomfield, a photographer.

Another factor which contributes to Broomfield’s reputation for controversy is his filmmaking style, which is primarily expository, but contains elements of performative and reflexive documentary styles. He often addresses social issues, for example in Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer he addresses the moral issue of capital punishment and whether it is ethical to sentence a mentally unstable person to death.

Also, when he makes a film he is putting himself out there as much as he is putting his work out there. He makes a film entirely his own by investing his own reputation when he makes risks and pushes boundaries. The ‘voice of God’ narration he uses is reminiscent of a diary entry and he often reflects on events directly to the audience. This is also somewhat rare within the genre of documentary as he is drawing judgement and prompting the audience to do the same, without presenting the topic in an entirely subjective manner. This original style is another reason as to why he is considered to be well known and controversial.

Kurt & Courtney is a 1998 documentary film by Nick Broomfield investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Kurt Cobain, and allegations of Courtney Love’s involvement in it. The film concludes that there is enough evidence to prove that Cobain was murdered with Courtney’s approval.

As Broomfield investigates the claims surrounding Cobain’s death, his emphasis moves from the conspiracy theories and onto an investigation of Love herself, including an accusation that she supports the suppression of free speech, and her fame after Cobain’s death.

The film was due to play the Sundance Film Festival but Love threatened to sue the festival’s organizers if they screened the film.

...and why do you think she wont run?

Yeah Tom, why?

Is this just more your desire that she won't run, or do you actually you have some logic to back up your assertion?

She has been the target of the media since her arrival on teh scene. They tried to blame her for Tucson. So it stands to reason she fights back and tries to set the record straight. So you take the side if the liberal media. Good to know where you stand comrade.

I love how it cones out in September, the time when she may announce. It’s like they have a little surprise evey month. The emails, now this, etc etc. And we have idiots here at FR that grin like jackals every time a new assault is launched at her. Did you jackals hear her throw the terrorist line back at Obama and co the other night? I guess that doesn’t warrant your approval. Where was your guy or gal on that? Oh, you “haven’t decided” who you back yet. Cowards.

I just pray that it doesn’t make more money then the Undefeated which has made 105,000 dollars. I seriously pray it makes 10 bucks....one viewer. If it makes more than the Undefeated, we will never hear the end of it.

it’s not just the film, there is a full disinformation campaign on all fronts (immigration, taxes, leadership decisions, peronal life, etc.,). they can’t win on their record so it’s search and destroy.

I had one guy telling me that Palin supports McCain’s Amnesty and the dream act while others say she’ll raise taxes (eyes rolling). One reporter on WaPo said Palin was “silent” during the recent debt debate (eyes rolling again). One commenter on another site even said she’s part of the elite establishment (eyes rolling again...ouch).

When she’s on the campaign trail, these things will get asked again, and Palin will answer on her own terms (not McCain’s pre-screened, campaign scripted answers).

Well, if the Sarah Palin hit job is anything like Kurt & Courtney we really have very little to worry about.

Contrary to some opinions posted on this thread, the film isn't the least bit convincing, and it sure as hell isn't entertaining. It's slow, tedious and repetitive even for a documentary. There's about 10 minutes invested in a talentless "singer"/biker dude who clearly doesn't know anything about what happened to Kurt but would like the filmmaker to buy him a six-pack [But he'll settle for a beer.] The two scenes with Cobain's aunt [who really has no theory about how Kurt died] are like watching paint dry and did I mention they're also content-free?

The one worthwhile scene in the movie really has nothing to do with the possible conspiracy theory in KC's death, but it is a hoot, in that the filmmaker reveals the attendees at an ACLU fundraiser honoring Courtney Love for the evil hypocrites they are.

Not much THERE there. Expect the Palin hatchet flick to be the same kind of bilge.

All we really learn from Broomfield's "expose" is that Courtney is a manipulative, vile, beyotch.

Normally, you would ignore a candidate that can't win - why bring more attention to that candidate? The Left is truly unhinged towards Palin. I wonder how hastily this propaganda was thrown together?

>>> She certainly is ineluctable.

It’s a very old argument. Such as Thomas Jefferson (inalienable) vs John Adams (unalienable) in the Declaration of Independence.

Adams cheated, he got to the printer.

Who is going to go pay money to see it?

It probably won't even be shown in the USA.

And should it, by some unimaginable fluke, make more than THE UNDEFEATED..............so what? We never seem to hear the end of all the same damned lies, even here, by those who can't stand her.

I've never heard of the film maker, nor of his other two crappy "documentaries". And if Courtney Love could sue to keep it from being shown and win, so can Sarah Palin!
