Santorum: Bachmann, others failed to lead in debt fight (Santorum bashes conservatives)
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2011-08-05 | Michael O'Brien & Geneva Sands-Sadowitz

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) slammed his competitors for the GOP presidential nomination Thursday evening, accusing them of mishandling the debt-ceiling debate.

Santorum singled out Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.), three House members also running for president.

"They didn't do what needed to be done; we needed to balance the budget. We need to limit the size and scale of government. They kicked the can down the road," he said on Fox News.

"We've got three members of Congress who want to run for president, who are out there talking about how they're going to be the ones that should lead the country, and they can't even lead the Republicans to do what they said they wanted to do. And they voted against the bill. I don't know how if you want to be president and lead the country, and if you can't lead Congress — it doesn't speak well for your ability to lead the country."

I heard from both Paul and Bachman about it, both voted no. They are not leadership. They did what they could.

Uh, the ring leaders in this betrayal were McConnell and Boehner. Bachmann is fine.

What the hell is this clown talking about? Both Ron Paul and Michelle Bachmann were on the front lines screaming about balancing the budget, refusing to raise taxes, and saying no to the debt ceiling hike. He needs to get his facts straight.

Its kinda funny if you think about it.

You just know a team of people have spent the last couple of days trying to come up with a statement that’s just a little different than everyone else.

Now, listen. Santorum knows what he’s talking about when it comes to politics and a winning strategy. He got all of 38 percent of the vote as an incumbent senator seeking reelection in Pennsylvania. So, we all need to take the worthless “advice” of the new “Mary Worth”.

The thing I didn’t like about Bachmann was that she said yes...and then voted no, based on the fact that she wanted Bambicare repealed.

This was not the time to attack that particular issue, and if she had really been opposed to the bill, she should have said in advance that she wasn’t going to vote for it.

She was really my favorite, but this old familiar stunt of waiting until a bill is passed and then voting no is the same-old, same-old, and I have crossed her off my list. I’d prefer somebody who announced his or her intentions in advance, argued them and then voted them, rather than a stealth vote with an eye on the polls.

I don’t know about the rest of ya’ll, but I’m really getting tired of Santorum.

You’re not going to get the nom, Rick. You’re not going to even get close to it.

Seems to me that Rick was a Senator once...did he always vote no on raising debt ceilings and spending bills?

Bad: those who voted to extend our debt.

Good: those who voted to cut real spending.

Where does Bachmann and the rest of the Santorum-accused stand regarding this benchmark?

If you can stomach it, columnist Dan Savage has a very funny description of Santorum.

Neither is Joe Wilson, but at least he led the SC delagation. Santorum has a point.

What makes him think he could lead this country,if his sense of direction, as to the cause of this mess, is so wrong?
