Is America Ready for 'George W. Bush on Steroids'?
The Atlantic ^ | AUG 6 2011 | JOSHUA GREEN

HOUSTON -- The days leading up to "The Response," Texas Gov. Rick Perry's prayer rally at Reliant Stadium, had looked a little grim for the governor and the event's organizers. Only about 7,000 people had confirmed that they would attend a venue that seats 71,500, and the controversial roster of sponsors -- including the American Family Association, which is labeled a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center -- drew as much attention as the event's stated purpose of praying and fasting for the nation's improvement.

- SNIP -

I thought the day's shrewdest political insight came from Dr. Richard Land, the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention and a sixth-generation Texan, who I bumped into in the hallway after Perry spoke. "If he runs, he'll be a strong candidate," Land told me. "He's a charismatic figure. I think about him on stage with the other candidates and he'll stand out. He's not a wallflower. But the most interesting question for me is whether the country is ready for somebody who looks and sounds like George W. Bush on steroids."

-I still love GW. I miss him terribly.

I feel for your loss, but GW set the table (the last 2 years of his Presidency) for the country to be seduced by the Marxist. GW gave us ZERO.

I think many here would rather see a permanent liberal majority than not have their particular person in office.

I agree whole heartedly.

W made did some things that I didn’t agree with AT ALL.

But as far as the safety of our nation, I never doubted him for a second.

We are talking about the most important Presidential election in our lies here. RINOs like the Bushs have some responsibility in bringing us to where we are today in this country. The only way we can win is if we nominate a proven qualified and capable conservative candidate and back him/her to the hilt against Obama’s billions! Only then, if we are fortunate, can we restore this country to the only land of opportunity, freedom and prosperity she used to be. If you call that working for the Democrats you live in a different world than I do.

Please do not lose sight of the fact that Obama and the Democrats are the REAL ENEMIES of America and must be defeated at all costs.

The real enemies of America are the so called "moderates". The word gets tossed around quite often. It's a smoke screen.

I'll ask you a simple question:

What beliefs does a moderate have on politically important issues such as abortion, gun control, illegal immigration, and more.

Try to answer them. (I'm not bashing you).

Yes, we are talking about one of the most important elections in history. And we’ve got to win it!

There are only TWO possible republicans who can win it...one is Sarah Palin, the other is Rick Perry, two governors with highly successful initiatives in their state pushing the republican agenda.

Now if YOU want to piss off an election and carry the democrats water for them against Perry if he runs and Palin doesn’t. YOU will help usher in Obamajaad’s second term.

NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND? Other than you are entirely WRONG about Rick Perry and haven’t a clue what you’re talking about!

However, I think it is undeniable that Bush made fundamental mistakes.

ALL human beings do. The fundamental mistake far too many conservatives make is that they seem to want candidates who never make mistakes -- at least "mistakes" as defined by each individual conservative voter.

“Capitalism is just barely tolerated by the gang in power”

Not just the gang in power. It’s also the %48 who pay no taxes and have their hands out for every freebie they can get from the productive class.

“I wish he would run today, he would be the best candidate. He is the real deal, and he’s the best speaker since Reagan”

And he would be the biggest loser since Mondale. It’s not his time yet.

Raather than losing yur temper, why don’t you just list the qualifications of Rick Perry to us? I will isten. I can oly judge the man by what I know he has done int the past.... favoring amnesty, the NAFTA Highway, insisting young girls get Gardasil shots, etc., etc.. Let’s hear it for Perry then.

Isn’t Obama, Bush on ‘roids?

Yep. But I have a lot of unanswered questions about Perry. I’m a tad older and wiser than I was when Bush came around.

This is going to be the Marxist meme. Perry is Bush. Palin can see Alaska from her house. And all that brilliant analysis.

Perry is not Bush. He is not a “compassionate conservative.”
