Is America Ready for 'George W. Bush on Steroids'?
The Atlantic ^ | AUG 6 2011 | JOSHUA GREEN

HOUSTON -- The days leading up to "The Response," Texas Gov. Rick Perry's prayer rally at Reliant Stadium, had looked a little grim for the governor and the event's organizers. Only about 7,000 people had confirmed that they would attend a venue that seats 71,500, and the controversial roster of sponsors -- including the American Family Association, which is labeled a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center -- drew as much attention as the event's stated purpose of praying and fasting for the nation's improvement.

- SNIP -

I thought the day's shrewdest political insight came from Dr. Richard Land, the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention and a sixth-generation Texan, who I bumped into in the hallway after Perry spoke. "If he runs, he'll be a strong candidate," Land told me. "He's a charismatic figure. I think about him on stage with the other candidates and he'll stand out. He's not a wallflower. But the most interesting question for me is whether the country is ready for somebody who looks and sounds like George W. Bush on steroids."

-"How ‘ bout a Perry/Rubio ticket?" Rubio is too valuable to waste as a VP. I wish he would run today, he would be the best candidate. He is the real deal, and he's the best speaker since Reagan.

How bout we STOP talking about Rubio for Pres or VP. His father natuarlized when he was 6 or 7 years old. If we go strictly by the consitution, he's not eligible.

He needs to STAY in the Senate and work into the leadership role. Can you imagine the media heads exploding every time this guys gets in front of a camera? heh

Not his time????

I refuse to support anymore “It’s his time” candidates. Remember Dole and McCain and Bush 1. It was their time and what did we get.

No more long beard establishment republicans.

Not me. The GOP (you refer to was actually the RNC)gave us none other than RINO John McCain last time. The only reason I voted for this - shall we say candidate - is because of Sarah Palin. Every vote he got was a vote for Sarah! The GOP or the RNC is actually part of the problem, not the solution. I never donate money to the RNC. I donate directly to my candidate.
We must be sure our candidate this time is a well qualified, capable conservative candidate who loves America, has common sense and a sincere devotion to curing our countless ills.

The author said that Dr. Land was a former president of the SBC. Not true. Richard Land is the head of the SBC’s ethic's committee.

We’re all frustrated right now. We all want the most conservative candidate to defeat the Marxist bastard.

Me too. I agree

Me neither

I donate directly to my candidate.

Good idea! I do the same. No middle-man for me.

There's no way I'll sit home and let Obama have another chance to win though.

Can't blame you if you do though. I guess after all is said and done and we have a nominee we shouls put America above the party and I cannot see anything positive for America with another term of ObamAA+

GW gave us ZERO.

GWB bears the greatest responsibility but he was left hanging out to dry on many things (Social Security reform, Katrina, Iraq, etc.) by a lot of gutless and self-centered RINOs and moderates.

The 'Rats came at W from all sides and he had very few true allies over the last four years of his presidency.
