The Southeastern Conference is staying just at it is — for now. However, the game of major college conference realignment appears far from finished. University of Florida President Bernie Machen, the chairman of the league’s presidents and chancellors committee, said the group met Sunday and “reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment.”

Hey Aggies!

The eyes of Texas are upon you, You cannot get away. Do not think you can escape them

Aggies again fail to escape the shadow of the Texas Longhorns.

“reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment.”

Sounds like a politician; they will change it.

I just want to announce I’m marrying a supermodel next week. I’m waiting for her to reply to my e-mail and then I’m all set.

Poor Aggies!

They throw a fit, kicking and screaming over the Longhorn Network and then the SEC tells them to go pound sand.

Too Funny!

This is like those Craigslist ads for jobs...

You apply for a job, the “company” just takes your info and spams your e-mail later. It was a just a phishing expedition for the SEC to embarrass the other schools...

The Aggies talk a big game, but in the end they get punked and show the world that A&M is not one of the elite football schools.

Texas A&M is still headed to the SEC. It is simply going through the legal process of leaving the Big 12. Texas A&M must announce its intention to leave before the SEC will extend an invite. This will probably happen after the Texas A&M Board of Regents meeting tomorrow.

Aggies are just bent all out of shape over the Longhorn Network.

And the Aggies cannot and will not go anyplace without their big brother in Austin.

Aggies are not likely to make such noise if it isn’t pretty certain. The football program and men’s basketball is on the up and how many national championships did they pull in last year? Men and Women’s Track, Women’s Basketball, Equestrian and I think I have missed one. Plus strong academics. Not too shabby.

The question is: will UT allow A&M to leave the Big 12?
Of course, the two universities are independent, but as is known by anyone who has spent time in in TX: in TX, UT runs the show.
Having A&M in a conference not controlled by UT (and one with as much prestige as the SEC) would be a shot aimed right at the heart of UT.
So, what happens now?

UT does not need A&M in their conference and the Longhorn don't need to play the Aggies to remain relevant as Texas is a premier program that takes in more money than any other NCAA program.

And Texas will have the Longhorn Network and that will bring UT $300 million dollars.

However, as it is now, the Big 12 now has ten teams and may as well be called the Longhorn Conference as Texas calls all of the shots.

If A&M were to leave, Texas would become an independent or join the Pac 12 or Big Ten.

The Longhorns could do whatever they want and set the terms if they go to another conference.

It all comes down to who has the most cash and UT Sports in the Big Dog and the Aggies and other schools are a fire hydrant.

This isn’t over by a long shot (and BTW, I’m an SEC fan, not an A&M supporter). But the mantra in college athletics is get bigger or become irrelevant. The SEC is determined to set the pace in college sports and that means an expansion to 14 or 16 teams.

Here’s how I translate today’s announcement: the SEC will be happy with the current 12 team format until they line up #13 and #14 for the conference (and maybe members 15 and 16 as well). A&M will be “in” when the invitations are extended, and probably Oklahoma as well. The sticking points are prospective members for the eastern division. Florida doesn’t want FSU in the SEC and a certain former Gator coach at South Carolina has voiced his opposition to Clemson joining the SEC.

So, I see the SEC with three options for growing the conference and generating even more TV and marketing dollars. As a 14-team league, they could add A&M in the West and Clemson, FSU or Virginia Tech in the east. Or, they could add A&M and Oklahoma in the west, and move Alabama and Auburn to the east. Or, bring in Texas A&M and OU in the West, and FSU and Clemson or VA Tech in the east.

As the SEC expands (and Texas goes PAC-10 or independent), the rest of the Big 12 will be scramblng to join the Mountain West, C-USA or the Big East.

SEC expansion isn’t a matter of if, but when. Even the Florida president will be placated (and let FSU in) if the price is right.

Texas does not need A&M and OU is not going to the SEC.

I could see Texas and OU both going to the Big 10 or PAC 12 as both OU and UT are top tier programs.

Actually, I would like to see such a move as it would mean better football and that Texas fans would not have to do road trips to backwater towns like Waco, Ames, Iowa, Manhattan, KS and College Station.

At least in Ann Arbor or Columbus you can eat at a decent restaurant and the local co-eds won’t be drooling Red Man Chew.

I know, and they went 5 and 7 last year. They lost to Iowa State. Not an Aggie, but Gig ‘em.

It’s not about wins and losses, it is about revenue and Texas wins that national championship every year.

First, A&M is right to go. It’s the only way they’ll climb out from under UT’s shadow. If the SEC will have them, great move for them. I suspect the SEC is waiting for two things before giving the Aggies the green light - the Aggies have to formally declare they are breaking their alliance with the Big XII and willing to pay the financial penalties for leaving and, secondly, the SEC needs to find a 14th team willing to do the same.

Secondly, Oklahoma has already said they’re going wherever Texas is going but the Big 10 doesn’t want Oklahoma because they aren’t an AAU member (academics). The Pac-12 isn’t really keen on adding OU for the same reason but they’ll probably overlook it if it means adding Texas.

Academic snobbery is also why some other schools may not be as excited to join the SEC as you might think. Missouri and North Carolina would be two such schools.

Finally, Texas is already lining up independents like BYU and Notre Dame for future seasons, making me think they’re fully prepared to go independent if it comes to that.

You are showing your arrogance. How pathetic on a political website where we are all supposed to be supporting a shared cause that you choose to spew your hatred for fellow conservatives. My question is why you would feel the need to do that?
