I have no doubt about the power (and money) of UT.
I simply believe that A&M could not leave the Big 12 without the - at least - tacit consent of UT.

UT would be a great addition to any other conference, but one problem remains.
UT is used to calling the shots in any conference to which it belongs.
None on the Big 10 schools - and esp Ohio State - would give UT the sort of authority it has now.
Nor, for that matter would the PAC 12 schools, esp Southern Cal.
So, the question is: could UT become just another member of the Big 10 or the PAC 12?
I doubt that, but I could be mistaken.

Actually, I should have seen that the arrogance is past the point of believability and is probably intended for provocation.

However, I fail to see how responding on a sports thread is attacking a fellow conservative.

Its not its just when Texas fans see he opinions of others about their school they get hit with reality and tend to lash out.

The ignorance on this thread is amazing.

The SEC issued today’s statement in a legal maneuver to keep from getting sued. The proper process involves A&M regents making the first move, which they will do tomorrow in granting A&M’s administration power to apply for SEC membership.

Then there’s a legislative hearing in Austin on Tuesday.

These things take time and must be done properly. It could take a few weeks. The official announcement might even be after football season.

A&M is simply doing what’s best for the school in moving to a better conference, and SEC is gaining a fine school. Win/win.

This past school year, Ags won 4 national championships and 9 Big 12 championships, easily the best record of any Big 12 school. They’ve beaten the Longhorns in football 3 of the last 5 years.

A&M is just moving up to tougher competition.

Assuming your comment was tongue in cheek, but the only national championship Texas has won in recent years was in men’s swimming and diving.

“Assuming your comment was tongue in cheek.”

Not tongue and cheek, but a fact.

The UT athletic programs earns more money than any program in the country and that is the most important indicator of a program.

“a certain former Gator coach at South Carolina has voiced his opposition to Clemson joining the SEC.”

I would be perfectly happy if we could trade him and SC for A&M. No to Clemson.

Sure, the Aggies won a Women's Basketball championship and perhaps a national championship in Tractor Pulling or Tobacco Spitting, but those are not sports that bring in money and earn your own TV network.

And the Aggies can brag all they want about beating Texas in football and winning a national championship in Cousin Conquering, but over the long run Texas wins most football games against A&M and has won Football national championships.

And the Longhorns have much better looking cheerleaders.

It is hard for people to remember the legal system doesn't move at the same speed as information!

A&M will be going to the SEC.

Good point and a couple of the elite Big Ten schools may not accept UT’s conditions for joining their conference.

Texas could go independent and likely come out making even more money.

Texas in the Big Ten would be fun with regular games against Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Just get over it.

The Aggies will stay right where they are and Texas will continue to control the Big 12 and have the Longhorn Network.

Why should the Aggies be in a conference as they like to play with themselves?

“Better looking” is a personal preference, Truman. This old gal will take those good-looking yell leaders any day.

I know you’re having a hard time with this, but tu will be ok. Rebuilding time and all that.

That Aggie code of honor just got in the way: “Aggies don’t lie, cheat, or steal nor tolerate those who do.” (Emphasis on the last five words, in this case.) Of course, moving into the same conference as Auburn and LSU is problematic in that regard.

You know I started not to respond to your posts, but then I realized I needed to thank you!

Your post and this entire thread has shown those who do not understand the University of Texas mentality exactly what they are made of.

Thank you for showing everyone on Free Republic what arrogant douche bags University of Texas fans can be. The fact that you live in Austin makes you a double arrogant douche bag. Thank you for being a perfect example of the University of Texas for all to see.

Now please post another arrogant stupid comment and further prove me correct!

When A&M goes to the SEC...I will be back to remind you to “just get over it.”

“Aggies don’t lie, cheat, or steal nor tolerate those who do.”

Are you serious or are you poking fun at the Texas A&M sports program that has had its hand slapped hard by the NCAA and placed on probation?

Now, let’s look at exactly what the the Aggies did to earn their way onto probation, lose football scholarships, be banned from TV and be prohibited from going to bowl games.

In 1988 an Aggie football coach drove a sports car to an recruit’s home and told the prospective recruit that he could have said sports car it he sighed with the Aggies.

That very same Aggie football coach told another prospective recruit that if he signed with the Aggies, that Texas A&M would provide medical treatment for his cancer stricken father.

Another Aggie football coach locked a recruit in a room without a phone on signing day and plied that recruit with alcohol until he signed with Texas A&M.

There were cases of Texas A&M boosters paying Aggie football players $27,000 a year for no-show jobs.

Sounds like your Aggies have been doing a whole bunch of cheating.

Please don't let your Aggie emotion take control as you guys are prone to do and pull a sword and point it at SMU cheerleaders all because the Aggies were getting their butts kicked.

Sure, A&M can go to the SEC and they will have the very same success as Arkansas has had since they went to the SEC 20 years ago.

For Texas, such a move would mean that the Longhorns would earn even more money and we would no longer have the Aggies come to Austin every other year to play the Longhorns and BBQ raccoons, possums and other assorted roadkill at their tailgate parties.

And Longhorn co-eds will not longer have to fear being cornered and groped in the women's bathroom by Aggie co-eds.

The only problem with that scenario is that OU becomes the “odd” team in the equation, since Colorado has already left the Big-12 for the PAC-12. That latter conference would gladly take the Sooners and the Horns, but who becomes the 14th team for the league? I actually think the PAC-10/12/14 would rather have a team like Utah over an Oklahoma State, one of the Kansas teams, or Texas Tech.

Bottom line: I don’t think UT will go independent; as long as the PAC-10 allows them to have the Longhorn Network, Texas will be happy. OU will be invited when they have another team lined up, and I don’t think that school will be from the Big-12.

When that happens, the Big-12 will collapse, and schools like OSU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas etc will be scrambling to join the Mountain West.

They’ll leave Alabama in the west. Auburn can moved to the east.

If they want to expand the TV market, they could add Maryland along with A&M and get that huge television market in the east.

I don’t want to see OU in the SEC.

You may be right; some of the rumors making the rounds suggest that Missouri will be the second team to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, delivering the Kansas City and St. Louis TV markets.

One thing is sure: Alabama and Auburn will not wind up in separate divisions. In fact, many of us who cheer for other teams in the SEC West would love to see them move to the east. Not because of the competition factor, but because of their reputation as world-class cheaters. Other SEC West schools have complained for years about their tactics, but to little avail.

With the cheaters in the same division as Tennessee, Florida and Georgia, complaints about rule-breaking will get more attention.

Maryland doesn’t bring much to the SEC table; VT games get more TV viewers in the DC area—particularly in the VA suburbs than Maryland. If FSU doesn’t bite (and the SEC is looking for a new school in the east), Virginia Tech moves to the top of the list.

And don’t rule out a 16-team SEC, with two new schools in the west (Texas A&M and OU or Missouri), and two in the east, among FSU, Va Tech and Clemson.

One final thought: Ga Tech will never get an offer to rejoin the SEC, since they had the temerity to leave the conference decades ago.
