Obama Ag Secretary Vilsack: Food Stamps Are A "Stimulus"

Obama's Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack: "Well, obviously, it's putting people to work. Which is why we're going to have some interesting things in the course of the forum this morning. Later this morning, we're going have a press conference with Secretary Mavis and Secretary Chu to announce something that's never happened in this country -- something that we think is exciting in terms of job growth. I should point out, when you talk about the SNAP program or the foot stamp program, you have to recognize that it's also an economic stimulus. Every dollar of SNAP benefits generates $1.84 in the economy in terms of economic activity. If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, someone has to stock it, package it, shelve it, process it, ship it. All of those are jobs. It's the most direct stimulus you can get in the economy during these tough times."

Yeah, and if the shiftless looters could use food stamps at booty bars there would be even more stimulus as employment in the service sector, hookers, strippers, bartenders, cocktail waitresses, bouncers, janitors as well as the growers of olives, limes, lemons, cherries and onions will be increased.
Side services like free clinics, rehabs, vice cops, divorce lawyers, check cashing outlets and loan sharks would be added as well.

“Problem solved.”

Yep. If you follow their thinking then not only should everyone get food stamps but also get a monthly $10,000 government check. Employment rate would be 150%.

>>If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, someone has to stock it, package it, shelve it, process it, ship it.

And somebody has to pay for it. Us.

Every dollar removed from the people by taxes reduces the amount of capital to invest and thereby create jobs.

The democrats love to point to A, the fellow in the hammock (safety net they call it), and proclaim the good they are doing. They do not point to B, the taxpayers who are hurt by haveing their labors stolen. B is always invisible.

Rather than lose money going through a middleman, let’s go directly from earner to market.

Lower taxes and quicken stimulus.
