With a view to maximize use of immigration-enforcement resources, the Obama administration has decided it will, on a case by case basis, allow many illegal immigrants who face deportation to remain in the U.S.

A senior administration official said Thursday that federal authorities will review individually the cases of some 300,000 illegal immigrants in deportation proceedings. Those who haven't committed crimes and aren't deemed a threat to public safety will have a chance to stay in the U.S. and apply for a work permit.

"The idea is to make sure that we are investing enforcement resources where they are best utilized," the senior administration official said. The idea, the official said, is to "Identify low-priority cases… and administratively close the case so they no longer clog the system." The official added that the case could be reopened by the government at any time.

The decision will also benefit about 11 million illegal immigrants who live in the U.S. but aren't currently in the deportation system because they haven't been caught by federal authorities, the official said.

"They will be less likely to enter the caseload to begin with so we can focus on folks in caseload who are high priority," said the government official, who declined to be named.

The announcement outraged hardliners on illegal immigration but seemed to placate some immigrant advocates angered by record removals of illegal immigrants and lack of progress in an overhaul of the immigration system.

"In essence, the administration has declared that U.S. immigration is now virtually unlimited to anyone willing to try to enter—subject only to those who commit violent felonies after arrival. This is not the nation's immigration law," says Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

The big question now is whether Republicans will impeach the president. There is a Republican majority in the House, which is all it takes to impeach him and send the case to the Senate for a trial.

In my state of Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula- they have determined that they need to increase Border Patrol Agents. They have increased the BP force to 50, and are in the process of building a multimillion dollar building as their heaquarters.
What has happened is that they have harrassed the citizens by setting up checkpoints and tailing people. They even stated they wanted to “assist” the police if they need to. A whistleblower who is a BP agent on the Peninsula told a panel in Washington DC that they have nothing to do. Now, Norm Dicks is investigating. I bet nothing will happen as a result.
My theory is the Border Patrol has no desire to enforce immigration law, especially when the government does not want to enforce it. If they truly wanted to enforce immigration laws, about 40 of those BP agents should be reassigned to Mexico border.
This is all about oppressing American citizens.

Solution: Operation October Surprise

States(especially red ones) should begin compiling lists of every known illegal immigrant in their state. Just before early voting starts in 2012, start rounding them up, and make sure it's public. Throw in a few raids while you're at it. As you round up the folks, file a lawsuit against Mexico in federal court for placing a financial burden on your state, and announce that each illegal will be held without bail until their is a hearing in state court - which will be back-logged to say... mid Nov.

Yeah, let's see the Dems try to make that an issue during the campaign.

I believe it takes a lot longer than a year to get citizenship and be able to vote. With a work permit they will be paying into the IRS and Social Security system. Since there is not the political will, including some Republicans to get rid of them, at least they can be paying rather than costing the country money.

Once they gain legal status, they can bring in their relatives. And what kind of message does this send to others outside the US contemplating entering illegally? We will see an increase in illegal immigration. When you reward something, you get more of it.

Once legalized they will be able to receive benefits like Medicaid, food stamps, EITC, etc. 57% of immigrant headed households are on welfare now.

Conferring rights and privileges upon illegal aliens has a corrosive effect on the Rule of Law, the very foundation of our Republic. It is also a slap in the face to legal immigrants who have followed the rules and obeyed the laws. There are millions of intending immigrants waiting their turn overseas to enter the U.S. legally. They have completed all of the required paperwork and background checks and are in line in the various immigration categories for their turn to enter. Some have been waiting for years. Where is the fairness in this?

I suspect that it will be a net loss. They will plug into the EITC, and all the social assistance/welfare programs and drain the US Treasury even faster.

Very few earn or will earn enough to pay income taxes and most will become eligible for Earned Income Credits - redistribution of tax payers money.

All studies of SS show that low income earner pay into SS a much smaller percentage of what they will take out than high income earners.

Without even considering Obamacare, they will drive the US to even deeper debt!

There's no need for any border patrol agents way up there. Any American can find out if a suspicious individual is a frostback by making two observations and send them back across the northern border with nothing more than an insult.

1. Does the individual look and act more white than the observant American?

2. Does the suspicious, pale person of obvious American/European culture speak great English with more than one "eh" in every sentence?

Investigation solved. Send the more-American-than-thou trespasser back to the more American country to the north with a comment like, "Go back to your igloo."

I don’t know where they are landing, probably on the US- Mexico border, where they need more Border Patrol.
As it is, I was sailing in the San Juans. The Coast Guard has a lot of zodiac boats, with 3 300 hp engines on them.These expensive boats are from Big Sis Janet- who felt that our northern border was more dangerous than the southern border. Coast Guard are on you in a flash, and we got boarded. They even had a Border Patrol agent with them who wanted our ID- even though we were in US waters.
There is also no need to have BP agents in Forks , Washington, unless they are looking for vampires ( Forks is where Twilight is set). There is no one there! Port Angeles and Sequim do not need this police presence, either.
It is all about keeping US citizens on the government watch.We are the ones the government is keeping under their control, not the illegals.
