New DHS rules cancel deportations
Wash Times ^ | 8/18/2011 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 08/18/2011 1:46:49 PM PDT by GreaterSwiss

he Homeland Security Department said Thursday it will halt deportation proceedings on a case-by-case basis against illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria such as attending school, having family in the military or are primarily responsible for other family members’ care.

The move, announced in letters to Congress, comes after Hispanic activists and Democrats had urged President Obama to exempt broad swaths of illegal immigrants from deportation while Congress wrestles with the issue.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said her department and the Justice Department will review all ongoing cases and see who meets the new criteria on a case-by-case basis.

“This case-by-case approach will enhance public safety,” she said in the letter. “Immigration judges will be able to more swiftly adjudicate high priority cases, such as those involving convicted felons.”

The new rules apply to those who have been apprehended and are in deportation proceedings, but have not been officially ordered out of the country by a judge. Miss Napolitano said a working group will try to come up with “guidance on how to provide for appropriate discretionary consideration” for “compelling cases” in those instances where someone has already been ordered deported.

It was unclear how many people might be affected by the new rules, though in fiscal year 2010 the government deported nearly 200,000 illegal immigrants who it said did not have criminal records.

What ever happened to Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment?

Never knew Reagan himself followed it especially on important issues. Had he followed it GHW Bush would have won in 1980 instead of him. The 11th Commandment Nonsense every time a Republican for their policy is rightfully called on the carpet within the party is the Establishment RINO Distress Bleat.

President Bush is going after Perry? Funny, Perry says it was the former President who helped convince him the time was now to run.

I doubt this will be reversed even if the Republicans win in 2012. They are traitors, too. If they weren’t, this would be a huge campaign issue.

You’re right. The number one qualification that the GOP elites look for in a candidate is how traitorous the candidate is. So, I guess that leaves us with either Romney or Perry.

His systematic destruction of what is left of this country is speeding up. Even if he loses re-election (highly unlikely)the damage he has done is irreversible.

Hello clueless. Seems to me that if an immigrant is here illegally, then when caught they AUTOMATICALLY have a criminal record.

"President Bush is going after Perry?"

Actually, I should have said the Bush family and the former Bush advisers. George W. Bush seems to want to stay below the fray.

Perry's War With the Bushies

Former President George H.W. Bush endorses Hutchison for Texas governor

Bush's Crew Is Gunning for Rick Perry

I also have heard on the news yesterday it was members of the Bush family who were pushing Chris Christie to enter the race.

This order will trigger a crime wave by illegals. They will commit minor crimes to become subject to deportation. This order will also trigger an explosion in governemnt transfer payments.

Does anyone REALLY think voting in our next election will change ANYTHING here??

Something REALLY needs to be done. Like YESTERDAY.

Amnesty has been voted down by Americans TWICE. He is absolutely ruling in the FACE of the will of the People.

NEEDS TO BE STOPPED, folks, or we can FORGET any fairness in our next election. It is over NOW unless we do something about this.

I wholeheartedly agree my friend. Unfortunately I don’t think we have it in us as a populace to rise up together and really clean house. Our govt is not watching out for our best interests anymore. I would be embarrassed to face our founding fathers today. We deserve what we have allowed to infect this once great country.

Outrageous. This is an impeachable offense. Amnesty by Executive Order should not be allowed to stand.

It looks like he ordered CHS to use their "prosecutorial descreation".

It is one thing to allow “prosecutorial discretion,” and another to grant an amnesty and legalize the status of illegal aliens and allow them to work here. What kind of message does this send to the millions of legal immigrants waiting their turn overseas to enter this country? And what kind of signal does this send to people wishing to enter this country illegally? When you reward something, you get more of it.

I recommend a post summer recess assignment for the entire "class" of Free Republic.

We cover every state in the nation. We cover every single stinking Congressional district. Each Freeper should call the office of his or her Congressional representative (even Democrats, though we know their answer), and also announced candidates for each district for 2012, and ask them directly what their stance is on possible Impeachment Articles in THIS CONGRESS (if the are there or were they there) against the President on the Issue of Derelection of Executive Enforcement of Established Federal Law in this respect.

We could keep a running log of responses on a mega-thread over the next few months, as people post what response they got talking to their Congressperson, Candidate, or representative, or got a reply in the mail. I really think we should begin a season of Freeper Activism here in this respect.

This is the end of nation.

How does it feel to be powerless to do anything about it?

I doubt this will be reversed even if the Republicans win in 2012. They are traitors, too. If they weren’t, this would be a huge campaign issue. Watch it not even be mentioned.

You are correct, if they weren't traitors this would be a huge issue.

None of the political elite are even pretending anymore.

Instead, while:
... 25 million Americans are looking for full time employmemt.
... hundreds of billions are spent on anchor babies, illegals, immigrant and their extended families
And 125,000 new legal workers are brought into the country each month! That is 1.5 million per year!
