Jon Huntsman's appearance on ABC's "This Week," is winning applause from one of the two major political parties. It's not the one Huntsman's hoping to represent as its nominee for president.
The Democratic National Committee just blasted out a greatest-hits reel from Huntsman's Sunday show appearance, wherein the former Utah governor criticized Rick Perry for being anti-science, Michele Bachmann for being unserious about the economy and Mitt Romney for being a flip-flopper.
The DNC subject line: "Don't take our word for it ..." A sample of the offerings:
JON HUNTSMAN ON HIS REPUBLICAN RIVALS
Huntsman Said The Rest Of The GOP Field Had Zero Substance And Were Too Far To The Right. Huntsman on ABCs This Week: We have people on the Republican side too far to the right. We have zero substance. We have no good ideas that are being circulated or talking about that allow the country to get back on its feet economically so we begin creating jobs. [ABC News This Week, 8/21/11]
Huntsman Said He Would Not Trust His Opponents With The Economy Because They Would Have Allowed The Country To Default. When asked by Jake Tapper, Would you trust a President Bachmann to do the right thing with the economy? Huntsman replied, I wouldn't necessarily trust any of my opponents who are on the recent debate stage with me when every single one of them would have allowed this country to default. [ABC News This Week, 8/21/11]
Huntsman Said The Republican Party Has A Serious Problem In Becoming The Anti-Science Party. On ABCs This Week, Huntsman said: I think there's a serious problem. The minute the Republican Party becomes the party, the anti-science party, we have a huge problem. We lose a whole lot of people, who would otherwise allow us to win the election in 2012 when we take a position that isn't willing to embrace evolution, we take a position that basically runs counter to what 100 to 900 climate scientists have said with what the national academy of science has said. What is causing climate change and man's contribution to it. We find ourselves on the wrong side of science and therefore in a losing position. [ABC News - This Week, 8/21/11]
Huntsman Said Wed Be Here All Afternoon To Talk About Romneys Flip-Flops. On ABCs This Week, Huntsman said, If we talk about inconsistencies and change on various issues, we'd be here all afternoon. [ABC News - This Week, 8/21/11]
Huntsman has worked his way back into the 2012 conversation over the last week by attacking the right wing of his own party. What he hasn't done is show there's actually a Republican constituency that wants that kind of candidate, and with Huntsman spinning his wheels in the polls, there's very little down side for Democrats in embracing his rhetoric.
People here are doing worse. I’m sure the DNC comes here to get trash on every candidate that’s announced.
This guy is worse than mclame. Why is he even a republican? He was in Obama’s admin, he should have his republican card yanked.
He looks like a queer funeral director to me. What a tool.
Huntsman is from the Obama administration and in sinc with the Obama administration.
He is there solely to provide an Obama-supporting democrat voice in all REPUB campaign and primary events.
Obama plant. Stick a fork in him. He’s done.
After listening to him on “This Week” I suggested to Mrs Redangus that he would be better suited to run against the Bambster in the Democrat primary, as he seemed to be the perfect moderate Democrat.
I did not think of that. After watching how fast Pawlenty lost support after he attacked the other candidates, Huntsman’s actions don’t make any sense. I’ve never talked to a Republican that supports Huntsman. I HAVE seen Democrats saying at least he’s “sane” ... but none of them are going to abandon Obama.
Huntsman is the ultimate RINO. He makes McCain look like a crazed right-wing nut.
Yes, though TPaw really had very little support before he lost what he had in not attacking Romney face to face. After attacking Bachmann he simply failed to gain any support.
Still, point taken. Huntsman’s playing some sort of game—and he’s on the other team.
Huntsman has to be on Obama’s short list to replace Joe Biden.
I guess this explains why my “moderate”,”centrist” friends support him.
That and Hillary’s not running.
Idiot looking for relevancy.
Go home...
I see (gazing into crystal ball)... a future MSNBC regular spot in Huntsman’s future.
T Paw’s attacks were on specific candidates and they failed.
Huntsman’s attacks seem to be on conservatives in general.

For Huntsman, it’s all about getting out the Dem vote in open primaries. The more he attacks actual Republicans, the more Dem votes he gets in open primaries, and the bigger contract he gets from MSNBC after the Republican convention.
Just speculating.
“We have people on the Republican side too far to the right. We have zero substance. We have no good ideas that are being circulated or talking about that allow the country to get back on its feet economically so we begin creating jobs.
If we had an RNC that actually cared about winning, or if the rest of the GOP pack of POTUS contenders wanted to jointly fund something useful, they’d have a national ad that (1) simply quoted the above statement from Huntsman and then (2) followed with: I guess Huntsman was talking about himself.
You’re right.
Sounds like Huntsman turns into Ron Paul in front of the liberal media.
What constituency is there for a candidate who will implement Obama’s policies but do it as a Republican?
“We have no good ideas that are being circulated or talking about that allow the country to get back on its feet economically so we begin creating jobs.”
If Huntsman actually had any good ideas to create jobs he would be talking about those instead of attacking his fellow Republicans for not having “good ideas.” Of course, Huntsman knows that by bashing conservatives he will get lots of press from the Republican-hating liberal media. That is the reason he is saying what he is saying. (Of course, he also shares the basic worldview of the liberal establishment.)
