I saw the movie this weekend and thought it was pretty good. A better director and screenwriter probably could have gotten more out of the actors and book, however.

I did not take this as having an ulterior political motive. At one point during the movie, at the big fundraiser, I was smiling to myself thinking virtually every white person in that room was a Democrat.

It is based on a best seller novel, written by a woman who grew up in Jackson and whose family had a black maid. Seems pretty natural to make it into a movie.

I thought the same as you since the movie is very well done. And then I read the latest installment of the ulsterman series where zero has plans to really use the race card to get reelected and all of a sudden bells and whistles went off.

Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

“Seems pretty natural to make it into a movie.”

Or maybe just report it on the evening TV news.

it reminded me of Louisiana in the early 60’s of my childhood. “The Help,” as the maids were known, knew everything! I plan to see the movie - the trailers look hilarious to me. I guess I should wonder the motives of a movie like this - but oh my. I wonder what would happen if “backstairs at the white house” was shown on TV now... Is THAT inciting folks to violence?

The thing about art is that once it’s released, it belongs to the people who see, hear, read it.

You may have meant ONE thing when you created it ... but you don’t know how it will be received.

As I said here, I can’t comment ... I just know one liberal who HATED it because it implied that an actual WHITE PERSON helped the help.

Oh... if only we could all rewrite history so all the oppressed overcame oppression without help from anyone some squish decided was unworthy of being appreciated.

Wait ... the only person who ever did THAT was Jesus.

I read the book first, then saw the movie.

The movie was good, but glad I read the book first to catch everything that was happening in the movie.

This movie did not stir any negative in me, and I thought it was very funny.

The first thing you catch, the whites would not allow the black maids to use the household toilets, so they built them one in the garages. You see, they thought that blacks left their diseases on the toilets.

That's right. But these same maids were hired as COOKS. ROFL. That is the stupidity of that whole era.

Now that is just a tweak of the story, you have to read the book or see the movie to know the rest. ROFL.

Noted and view respected. How well said about the fund-raising scene. ROFL.
