I am near Wilmington NC, was watching Swamp People when the shake came. Next Irene.
Felt the quake in Dunbar, WV at elementary school. Wall mounted television and chairs rock and rolling. Lasted about 15 seconds.
We heard this too.
Hard to believe a 6 range earthquake could sway buildings in Louisville and up and down the east coast.
I know, but I’m watching this spiral into absurdity rather quickly. I know the buildings aren’t built to the same codes as in California and the west coast, and people aren’t used to it, but Fox is reporting evacuations as far away as Canada! It’s just so amusing to watch something happen on the east coast, especially if it effects NYC or DC - it’s an instant media frenzy! I suppose it would be similar if a hurricane hit L.A., but I increasingly admire Japan’s stoicism.
Does God drop hints?

Annapolis here, too. We went outside. My son, always on the ball, asked when we’d be getting aid. He certainly has been paying attention!
The bigger question is WHICH WAY is it leaning? I would assume, to the right, just like the rest of the country.
Yes, this is funny for us SoCal Freepers.
But I will say that our quakes only affect one big city, rather than the 10-12 that this one has.

I work in the Woodley Park area of DC. I was on a conference call with a colleague in Minnesota when the shaking began. It rattled everything in my office. At first, I didn’t realize what was happening, but when the shaking just went on and on, it finally hit me that it was an earthquake, and I booked it out of my office and down the three flights of stairs to the street. Very, very disconcerting.

Actually it was felt in Martha's Vineyard as well as downtown Boston - no word on whether or not they've evacuated Martha's Vineyard, nothing on the news about obama even noticing it - probably too busy golfing, or riding a bike or eating.
Very unsettling news.
I was visiting a friend in downtown DC. Lying on a couch reading. Felt very strong shaking. Looked like the wall was moving and creaking. No cracks or fallen objects. About 10 seconds. Cell phones not working well. 5.9 latest report. News says from Va. to Mass. Also warning this could be a preliminary shock, so we could get worse. Also there are likely to be aftershocks. Big buildings like the Pentagon and the Capitol are more vulnerable to damage. This may be the strongest east coast earthquake since the Charleston earthquake in 1886(?). I also felt the 3.? earthquake we had around here a few months ago. It was very faint.
I was also in a 7.5 in Mexico City in 1957. Was coming home late from a party. Started to stagger, told my date, “But I only had 2 drinks”. He was from California, grabbed my hand and we ran for the center of the intersection. We clung to each other like we were on a fast moving subway. For weeks afterwards I would feel subtle tremors when I was lying down.
