Bloomberg hamming it up for the cameras now. One thing is certain..the truth will rise to the surface by tomorrow. I am praying that it has been mostly ‘hyped’ for the sake of the people in the way of this storm.

I will never poopoo sustained 60 MPH. It can do damage, catastrophic damage, no, unless your house isn’t built to code. It will destroy your landscaping, etc. BUT 60 MPH when you live on the water is FAR worse than 60 MPH inland. 60 sustained mostly makes a lot of noise, breaks weakened trees and limbs, uproots shallow rooted trees, and sounds scary as hell.

Yes, Miss Didi. I’m about 10 miles from the Wallops flight facility where I’m getting my info from.

Much better from the bottle. We always had our beer in glasses until a long time ago one of our cats sneaked a sip one day, decided he liked it,and then couldn’t be trusted around an unattended glass. I guess it seems uncouth when someone, especially a woman, drinks right out of the bottle, but it’s a habit now and DH and I like it better this way.

Exactly, I think Sheppie Smith on Fox is on his third case of depends by now...shreaking that NYC is going to be inundated by a 30 foot storm surge with 1900mile an hour winds...run for your lives.

I’ve been through several hurricanes when I lived in NC. We actually WENT to the coast for Frank and stayed in the Ramada or Sheraton(?) right on Salter Path Road in Atlantic Beach. This was in ‘80 I think and there were massive waves and winds and nobody went crying and whining around back in those days.

Lastest radar loop:

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/radar.php?rid=MHX&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

Can someone knowledgeable about these things tell us why the bulk of the weather is on the left of the storm now? I thought most hurricanes carried the most intense stuff on the right of the center? The rain and intense stuff seemed to change sides once it hit land hours ago. Just curious.

Not much happening here (inland Atlantic County NJ)

Getting the occassional band of wind, I would say under 10 mph) and a steady rain.

Got a pot of coffee on and made some hot roast beef with provolone cheese sandwiches.

The media is off the charts loony on this one, sorry, but that’s the facts.

When it comes to the national/network media, I totally agree with you. I mean really, why in heaven's name would the Governor of Virginia care about what is forecast for NYC when this storm is bearing down on his state? Yes, Piers Morgan of CNN asked Gov. McDonell that earlier today.

However I prefer to watch/listen to the local folks as tey actually have a vested interest in what they are talking about. they and their families live and work in these communities.

I don't need, nor want, some blow dried dude or dudette from NY or DC or Atlanta telling me what is going on in my area, I want the guys and gals that know the area and actually know what they are talking about.

I’ll be here as long as the cell towers stay on line. We’re on a “high” spot and have a wonderful wind break in the form of timber stands to the east and north of the property.

Just watched Bloomie on NY1 and NYers who need mass transit for work can count on staying home on Monday. Shep—it’s coming, this storm is real.
