Hiya Exit man!

You still have electricity I see.

WE’ve lost it three times already right east of Georgetown proper. don’t expect to keep it long.

Filled bath tub today at noon, all the water was gone by 4pm. Rigged up a makeshift stopper, re-filled. Plan B, will fill empty cat litter buckets with water and store THEM in the bathtub. All in the spirit of American Can-Do.

Dog is freaking. Let her out in yard earlier, was windy, blowing rain, but not the worst. She did squat and pee but she looked at us with squinted rain-pounded eyes beseeching us silently as humans and in charge of the universe to make this stuff from the sky stop.

Dog peeing from now till is over will be in the garage. Concrete floor...we’ve done it before.

This is an odd storm. I can’t recall a greater disparity between the low central pressure (*still* around 950, despite all the interaction with land) and the not-terribly-impressive wind levels. It’s a CAT 1 storm with CAT 3 pressure. Irene may turn out to have more staying power than you’d expect from the wind category alone.

This is just bizarre. Pressure is still being reported at 950.

The eye is back over the water now and is reforming, somewhat.

If your near the ocean this is big. 80 MPH wind whipping two by fours and garbage at your house for 12 hours. This storm is going to some major damage. Its killed three people already with trees slamming into houses, and it’s just got started.

Just Damn-—————

NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility

630 pm: Rain sensor gauge has stopped reading, so unfortunately we will not have any more updates on rain totals. Our weather team reports the worst is still yet to come. Expect inclement weather until mid-morning tomorrow. Highest gust last hour was 54 mph with sustained around 40-45 mph.

Did I suggest that we should not have a hurricane warning system and coverage of the event? No..I don’t think anyone has said that. What some of us have noticed though is that there is a smell of desperation in the air by Obama and the media to sell this whole thing as something it is not in order to make Obama look good or for the political reasons of globull warming. That is all we are saying.

I think every single FReeper is praying for the people in the path of this storm. One thing is certain....Conservatives and self reliant folks will be the most prepared for this storm no matters what happens. One can tell that by reading these threads of FReepers preparing for any thing that might come up. I haven’t seen any of them waiting on Obama to tell them what to do or how to behave.

Just heard Gov Christie telling folks that think this storm is losing strength that they are wrong in thinking that windspeed is a measure of the damage this storm can do.

Personally, I wonder if it is possible that there is a difference between canes coming up the coast the way this one has, and the ones slamming into Florida and/or the gulf.

But, I didn’t even stay at a holiday inn last night, just hung out with the other crones at the old folks’ home.

Exactly, but they want this to be catastrophic, if they report it enough, maybe people will think it is. They will go around afterwards, take photos of trees that fell on cars ir uprooted, things like that. If there is on thing we know the MSM is good at it’s lying.

If you didn't 'figure it out', why would you characterize it as a 'term of endearment' regardless who it was shared with, as tho that could possibly be any of your business to begin with ?

The water is cooler the further North you go, so that has a tendency to weaken the storms.

This morning as the storm made landfall I spent some time poking around radioreference.com. I settled on a ham/shortwave relay transmissions. One by one, anonymous radio operators were giving their readings from various places in NC and VA. They were reporting mb as low as the 960’s, even remember hearing one say 950-something. Most said 970/980’s as I recall. “And dropping.”

So, yeah.

Mhhhmmm, odd isn’t it. But where are you getting the pressure reading from? NOAA. Nuff said.

Riight. NOAA is faking the pressure readings.

Measuring barometric pressure is highly technical and requires expensive equipment. That's why they know they won't get caught.

Odd storm is the correct term, as far as I’m concerned.

Yes there is. The warm waters in the Gulf and the Caribbean are fuel to the fire of a cyclone tracking down that-a-way. The cooling waters in a northward hike are a hunger strike to the hurricane -- the more it tries to lash out the quicker it dies.

The surge can do a lot of damage, Yes. But those places it will damage most are already well evacuated. Not just hurricanes cause surges up here. Some of the worst damages comes from No'easters. So folks in surge afflicted areas north of VA are well familiar with surges even though we don't get many bad hurricanes.

I have a dozen family members on the Jersey waters edge. They refused to leave. I practically begged for them to leave, but no go...

My sisters house is on a barrier Island. About 10 feet above sea level. She evacuated to the coast, Looking out at the water. Like watching a slow motion train wreck.
