FWIW I checked an Elizabeth City Wunder station when the center was over it, roughly, and the reading was 28.35 inHg. That’s 960 mb. Still, the poster was speaking his informed mind on the issue, and the 950-960 does seem low for the wind speed.

Family nearby have already lost power. Rain is pooling up in the street pretty quickly,it’s not all running down towards sewers.

Keep safe, nutmeg...I didn’t say “hi” earlier. :)

Oh, that's OK... we've all been busy preparing for this stinkin' Hurricane.

Hope you and yours stay safe as well, Miss Didi. :-)

They won’t be patient, that’s for sure, but power outages of that time length aren’t so rare from hurricanes, depending on the extent of the trees, poles down, flooding, etc. This summer in the midwest, there were numerous violent storms and flooding that caused some unusually long power outages.

NY FReeper here! I’ve been lurking this thread since it started, NN does a great job.

I live on one of - if not, the smallest inhabited islands in NYC. We are 1 1/2 miles long by 1/2 mile wide at the widest point, comfortably nestled in the throat of Long Island Sound.

Will give updates if the power holds out, but... well I don’t expect it, powerlines and trees don’t do well in storms.
