The 76MPH reported @ Williamsburg, VA is at the airport. Any word whether those winds are at the surface or aloft?

Never hurts to be polite, right?

Did anyone hear the older professor who was just on Fox? He was comparing Irene to a storm that hit NYC back in the late 1800’s. Said the wind speed didn’t matter.

He mentioned 4 other factors that people should be paying attention to, but was reading another weather forum, and missed part of it.

I have read that entire counties in NC are totally without power. To my mind, this loss of power is the worst of the potential possibilities. There are only so many power crews to go around, and if all the states lose electric, consider that 1/3 of the total US population lives in the affected areas.

It could get very ugly.

Egads!—go to the top of the thread and take a peek at the monster size tropical wave that just dropped off the Africa coast. Too early for forecast guidance. Hopefully, it won’t develop.

I did just that... WOW! WHAT the heck is that thing??

This over drama coverage can bite the DBM in the butt for the next storm if they overhype this one.Especially if and little or nothing happens. No one will pay attention to them next time which could be a huge problem.

No problems here in Northern VA. Steady rain, steady light winds. We’re a long way from the real action.

Wow, Irene IS moving very slowly... I thought you'd be seeing "action" by now. Our local meteorologist keeps reminding us how a slow-moving hurricane/tropical storm is not a good thing.

Glad to know you're still with us. Here's hoping another tree doesn't plan a visit inside your house this time...

My motto is, if you get a mandatory evacuation order, you do it, end of story. Voluntary, means you can wait and see for a while.

We just started getting rain here in DRUMS PA. Got the wine and Gray Goose.

I admit I had to look up Drums, PA on Google Maps... I've been to lots of places in PA, but didn't recognize that one. You're south of Wilkes-Barre?

I just had a glass of red wine myself. Needed to calm down a bit after listening to all the gloom and doom, especially from our local meteorologist on the radio (based in Hartford, CT).

Donna was an odd one wasn’t it? It came across the middle Keys as a cat4, did enormous damage, then moved up the west coast of Florida and came in around the Tampa Bay area, then hit NC, or SC, can’t recall which, then moved up the Eastern Seaboard. Donna visited a lot of places in her weird journey.
