It did help - I forgot about the Virginia Pilot. LOL.

Idiot ODU kids surfing down 49th street. Sheez. Nothing new under the sun.

And I wasn’t even really talking about the posters’ comments, as bad as that has been, but what folks were saying that was being said with network coverage.

Did you see him interviewing the passersby? Idiot couple who live 20 blocks away were “trying to get home.” Walk, you jerks, it will take you half hour tops.

What do they do for the skycraper windows to
secure them? That is a fearsome thought ..
those windows bursting and falling down below

Nothing to do. They are very tough tempered glass. In hurricane Alicia in Houston 1983 the buildings were hit hard by debris. The broken glass became part of the debris cloud. It was strange seeing all those formerly shiny buildings covered on entire sides by plywood for several weeks

I stock my freezer with bottled water. This way they can be moved to the fridge to extend coolness there.

There’s no mess from melting ice cubes, and they can always be reused for drinking & whatnot.

so your stupid, uneducated "theory"/assumptions are serious garbage.

Well thanks. I shall always remember your politeness. I may have been wrong but I was positing some thoughts, politely. I'd never act like you. This is the nastiest thread I have ever been on. I'll leave now. That simply was not necessary.

Dear NautiNurse,

Well, we've all decided to stay up past our bedtimes because, well, as anxiety-producing as this hurricane has been, and still is, it's sort of exciting, especially with the generator going outside.

It's raining pretty torrentially here. It started raining about midday, but rather lightly. It was pretty solid and steady by late afternoon. Since about 8 pm, it's been coming down in great buckets. It's pretty gusty outside, but I'd guesstimate the winds aren't steadily blowing more than 30 mph or maybe a bit more. Gusts are probably over 40 mph.

So, right now, it's just a real good soaker of a rainstorm. It's supposed to peak somewhat later tonight.

I live about five or six miles from Annapolis, as the crow flies, about half a mile from the headwaters of the South River, in south central Anne Arundel County. I'm a little north of Route 50.

In Anne Arundel County, about 60,000 households have lost power on BGE’s grid out of about 235,000 households. That number will probably climb.

The sump pump is easily handling the flow of water, but it's a great deal of water, and it's non-stop. Without the backup power (and thus, the operational sump pump), the basement, which is in the process of being finished, would be flooded by now.

The standby generator, 20KW running on propane, was only installed this week, finally. I knew that if we were going to finish the basement, I had to have a permanent solution to power outages and the problems they can cause for us, especially during heavy rainstorms. It isn't unusual for us to lose power here.

I think our contractor who is finishing the basement was getting annoyed with me, because I kept giving him a bad time about hooking up the generator. I've had it here for about six weeks.

Glad I insisted.

Hearing thunder here in SE CT, heavier rain than earlier. Wind picking up, but not scary (yet).

Gonna fill my tubs before heading to bed. Local TV saying we’ll have some tornadoes possible.

Storm surge predicted to be 3-6 feet just south of me on the shoreline.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that kind of worry
and stress. Have you not been able to reach them by
phone or text?

News blurb

“VIRGINIA BEACH —
After a daylong pummeling by Hurricane Irene’s battering winds, drenching rains and a possible spinoff tornado, the Hampton Roads region braced for a possibly historic storm surge as high tide approached Saturday night.

Officials warned Saturday afternoon that residents would experience the worst of the storm by nightfall and should stay put until conditions let up.”

Now here is something ironic - I would not know twitter from a rock.

Knowing you, and knowing me - well, you win the technology race.

I will banish myself to the desert for 40 days, to play with my toys.

I think Geraldo is an idiot.

I came to that conclusion when he dug up the foundation of that building looking for Al Capone's vault.

t things are pretty reasonable at the moment.

Last report I got from the Melfa area is that everything is pretty good - wet and windy, but not much different than from what I’ve had all day.
