We can all thank our Leader, nobama, for taking control of the National Weather Command Center after sacrificing the last day of his tenth vacation this year so as to save us. The best way we can do this for the Great One is to send a sizable contribution to his campaign so he can continue to protect us and allow us to bathe in his glory. All praise nobama, the All-Powerful.

The things people do during this kind of weather boogles the mind.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
I have kind of had it with all this Government ‘hands on’ handling these weather fluctuations.

Great example of why we ‘need’ something of this sort.

Heard a Fire Chief/Spokesman warn people to NOT set up their gasoline generators in the house.
Then (without use the word if you are dumb enough) he cautioned if you should do something that foolish, definitely do NOT light off your grill in the same room.

Something tells me they had just returned from a fire or call with the above ‘problem’.

AND these idiots get the same vote as you and I - probably more if someone takes them to the different voting places...

Yep...I watched Bloomie last night instructing his ‘subjects’ as if they were totally stupid. I suppose some of them really are stupid(like the ones that voted for him and Obama...lol)...but it sounded so condescending to us normal self sufficient folks.

We were headed to a camp in Bethel ME originally, and had spent 2 nights in VT waiting out the direction of the storm. Since we are in a motorhome, and with no friends or family in the area to help if we got into trouble, we decided to go back to Upstate New York to ride it out. The path of Irene still seems to being going directly over Bethel, so we feel we made the right decision to come back here. We are in Herkimer NY, and its raining steadily, but not hard, and no wind to speak of.

I just got an email from my friend in Philadelphia:

“Hi. My basement and garage are flooded and the winds are absolutely horrific. The bathrooms have large skylights (glass) so I think it’s a coin toss.....the power keeps fluctuating- the power back-up on my computer keeps clicking.., so I don’t know how long I will have electricity......I had 2 hours of sleep......the winds woke me up......sounds like freight trains.... you can hear things being thrown around out there.

My cats are under the bed........and my neighbor (these are big, old, 3 story, brick houses, Philly row homes- now called “town homes”.....lololol....) is singing gospel at the top of her lungs....She is a gospel singer in her church’s choir......services, all over, were cancelled today.......

But... we’re ok here.......still standing.”

I lived directly across from Fisherman’s Beach in Swampscott, Mass in 1960 when hurricane Donna came through. I guess that was the last really big hurricane to come through. This one doesn’t look to be more than some flooding.

I’m most concerned about the rivers coming down from the green mountains in VT and the white mountains in NH and Maine. I think that is going to cause the real damage.

Flooding in Philly:

High tide will hit around 1:45pm today, and as this shows it will be well above flood stage in Philly on the river.

Pier 12 Philly

If you go to NOAA - Water Weather you can drill down to your coastal system.

'freight train' sounds are very not good !

I'm originally from part of tornado alley in the midwest, and have heard a few of those unscheduled choo-choos.

It's bad enough when you can see the damned things, but at night that's one scarrrry noise.

I keep running to my window and it’s like a dreary rainy day...in fact, I think it stopped. The girl across the street is out walking her dogs.

Checking in from Northern NJ. Tropical storm conditions continue and we have numerous rivers with flood warnings. We haven’t lost power and water in basement has been minimal. Our borough, however, is experiencing massive flooding and roads are shut down. My husband came home briefly around 3:30 AM but is back out. Thanks again for this thread. Prayers for all.
