Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.

Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Your vote counts for what exactly? Storm envy? Storm stupidity? Another know it all that was nowhere near the storm? I’ll take that for what it’s worth

Glad to know you are back with us, albeit from a hotel. Very relieved to know you are safe and your property is intact. Hope you get your electricity restored very soon. Thanks for checking in.

Hi everyone!

Well, we just got our power back and now have a big mess to clean up. Had no electricity nor running water since Sunday morning, 8:15am (we depend on electricity to pump our water out of a deep well). Everything in the fridge and freezer has to go.. the fridge got up 60 degrees yesterday (yuck!) We saved what we could in coolers, but the ice finally melted and the cold packs ceased being cold.

No damage to us nor to our house or property, though, and for that we are thankful! I'm also thankful that our relatives and friends in the area are fine as well.

Lots of folks in Vermont, New Jersey, parts of New York and some southern states have it MUCH worse than we do... I'm sure you've seen the coverage on TV. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with people who were REALLY impacted by Irene - not merely inconvenienced as we were.

Lots to do... should be 'back to normal' in a day or two.

Thank you all for your prayers and hurricane advice! :-)

Good news.

I moved my mom into my house (which has power, not serviced by CL&P, but a muni electric co), but her house is still w/o power. It went out there on 6:15 Sunday, no big trees down, so I didn’t have to chainsaw my way to the road like with Gloria. THAT was a huge relief, I was dreading having to do that.

Haven’t seen a thing on TV because I don’t own one, just some sobering pictures of flooding on the web.
