Weather Underground (vile name, but ok forecasts) is currently showing it as Cat 1 over DC Sun morning, and 'only' tropical storm strength over NYC Sun afternoon.

That's still 50ish mph winds, but surely not the end of what passes for life in the Rotten Apple.

The f'n enemedia even lies about the weather, as tho no one will notice !

1) The wind speeds will be much higher at the top of the skyscrapers.

2) The real danger is the surge, which will be enormous because the storm is so wide, even if it is only a Cat 1 hitting New York. New York City suffered devastating damage and a huge storm surge from a Category 1 hurricane in 1893.
