For those in the way of this thing, here's hoping it's another hyped-to-death dud

It's just a Cat 2 so I am hopefully this is much ado about nothing

Wilmington about to get a hefty rain band. I’ve been worried about tornados, especially at night.

The USAF determines pressure and winds which determines the classification.

We texans are just about as safe as mummies can be.

When our well-done parts start dropping off in this inferno... well, I guess we’ll just hafta order new ones!

I would have done it in a heartbeat. I remember watching them take off from Keesler all thru 1985. That was a very active year! I went to school just a few Hangars down from where they were stored. I did admire their skill and ambition.

checking in. Nice to see lots of familiar friends here. Actually I have been here since about 4 & following all. Thanks again for the thread & I wish I could through the monitor kick some people for their rude and borish posts. My curiosity was high re: NC governor. I had not seen her & expected a Helen Thomas from the comments. I didn’t think she was that bad for a gal perhaps in her early 60s. I did see what some of you mentioned about the face that didn’t look exactly right. Could be poor results of plastic surgery. I think if she was warmly smiling much of that saggy stuff would look better. I think she was being fairly solemn in light of the situation. I have no clue if she is a good or bad governor. Just commenting on my impression of her appearance. Will be watching with you all the next few days with interest & the best scenario is that lots of hot air will feed into this system.

Don't tell God how big your storm is... tell your storm how BIG your God is!

Great tagline! Speak to the mountain and it shall be moved!

Looks like Irene may become a paper tiger.

Up here in NY and New England, we’ve already had a rain-soaked August. Also, we’re going to be right at the monthly high tide peak. Combine that with the way the surge gets compacted in and around NY and that she’s a relatively slow-moving hurricane and even a weak category 1 could deliver as much flooding as a category 4, they’re saying.

Well, of course, if were talking about 60mph winds for twenty hours, we’ve got a problem. I just looked at a city map that showed my apartment out of the flood zone but one block over the neighborhood is in a Category 2 hurricane zone (I think - something like that). I’m in Kips Bay but not in the city at the moment. No, not me! Went straight to the Jersey Shore, lol! One thing we don’t have in Kips Bay: trees!

Stay safe, please.
