Al Gore to Rick Perry: Climate scientists aren't motivated by money By Ben Geman - 08/26/11 05:02 PM ET

Al Gore on Friday bashed the notion that climate scientists are manipulating data for financial gain, a charge levied by global warming skeptics, including GOP White House hopeful Rick Perry.

“This is an organized effort to attack the reputation of the scientific community as a whole, to attack their integrity, and to slander them with the lie that they are making up the science in order to make money,” Gore said in an online interview.

“These scientists don’t make a lot of money. They are comfortable, as they should be, but they don’t make a lot of money. That is not their motivation for doing what they do,” Gore added.

His comments came in a wide-ranging interview with Alex Bogusky, a prominent former advertising executive who is working with Gore on the former vice president’s Climate Reality Project.

Gore didn’t mention Perry by name in the interview, although Bogusky mentioned Perry as part of a broader question about doubt and climate science.

Perry, the Texas governor, attacked climate scientists at a campaign stop in New Hampshire last week. “I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data, so that they will have dollars rolling into their, to their projects,” Perry said.

Perry and Gore have a political history that dates back to the 1980s.

Perry was Gore’s Texas state campaign chairman when then-Senator Gore ran for president in 1988. Perry was a Democrat at the time, and later switched his political affiliation to Republican.

Gore broadly attacked what he called an organized campaign by fossil fuel interests to sow doubt about climate change and climate scientists, calling it based on tobacco industry campaigns of the past about the health effects of smoking.

"Millions of people died unnecessarily. They were able to delay action — not by refuting the surgeon general, but by injecting enough doubt so that people would feel 'maybe this isn’t settled yet,'" Gore said. "Now the coal and oil companies are doing exactly the same thing."

The overwhelming view among scientists is that the planet is warming and human activities are a major cause.

No, they're not motivated by money. They're motivated by the allure of being a scientific celebrity. Celebrity scientists generally remain well-funded by grants, are the hot shots at national and international meetings (which means they are treated like superstars, dine at the best restaurants, sleep in the best hotels, drink the best wine etc.), and become the king/queen makers in their given field. They are motivated by the same thing that motivates Gore - the desire to be ‘special’ and ‘important’. Of course, their income clearly benefits as well.

Now that there is funny. I suppose Algore believes this, too. His bank accounts must anyway.......

Next Gore will be saying that he isn’t making anything out of it either.

"The overwhelming view among scientists is that the planet is warming and human activities are a major cause."

As a genuine scientist, all I can say to Algore is:

"Hang onto that lie, and squeeze every speaking fee and 'carbon credit' scam dollar out of it you can -- while you can -- because we real scientists are consistently proving that you and your AGW toadies are full of crap!" (And most of them know that by now...)

And, of course, Al Gore isn’t in it for the $$ either. He just wants to save the planet. Of course, to achieve that goal, he must live/act like a jet-setter, but that’s just the sacrifice he makes for the COMMON GOOD. [/s]

Algore is a well known liar and fraud. Behind every working climate scientist there is a grant. And every university that contributes to the global warming scam gets funding for climate research. The whole carbon trading, global warming ponzi scheme is an application of Enron techniques, only the promised product isn’t energy. It is the fortunes made from taxing air. It has all been very profitable for Algore and his grifter friends. There isn’t a leftist, progressive scheme on the books that isn’t about stealing money from someone.

How do we know Al Gore is a liar? He is the only man on Earth who has looked into the eyes of Bill Clinton and said he sees a choir boy.

Ok. If the gravy train grant junkie eggheads are not motivated by taxpayer money and gubmint cheese...let’s try a little scientific experiment.

Take away the taxpayer funding...let’s see how many bogus studies they produce then.

My unscientific best guess:

they will be unemployed.

Should we think its just coincidental that 5 negative paragraphs of the total of 11 paragraphs are about Perry and not the algore interview?

Amazing how the PDS crew has no problem using some very liberal slanted sources so long as they slam Perry.

This coming from the guy labeled as the man who would be the world’s first “carbon billionaire.”

Many scientists are concerned with the grants that pay their salaries and fund their research. When they know that a certain result is REQUIRED in order to continue their work, those results will often magically appear.
