Did an Editor of a Major Newspaper Threaten to “Crush” Rick Perry?

Via Hot Air Headlines, a fellow named Douglas MacKinnon says:

With exactly that mission in mind, an editor of a major newspaper told me: “We plan to declare war on Rick Perry and do all in our power to crush him.”

There you have it. No pretense of integrity, professionalism or of unbiased news-gathering. This particular newspaper plans to use its very considerable resources to destroy the Perry campaign before it gains momentum. Period.

This is a very serious allegation. While it is easy to believe that a Big Media editor might say something like that to someone s/he trusted, it seems to me that if this quote is accurate, we should be told who the editor is. Or, at the very least, shouldn’t Mr. MacKinnon explain why he is not telling us?

What is this thing you call “newspaper” and why are its “editors” allowed to crush people? Or is that just jive talk?

“An” editor of “a” paper?

Likely several of ‘em have so vowed.

After reading literally thousands of comments, it’s become apparent that there are quite a lot of anti-Perry activists out there throwing all sorts of disparaging rhetorical crap against the wall in hopes that some will stick and they can influence someone, anyone, to become anti-Perry too. The unfortunate thing is that most of their negative statements are either completely false, at worst, or misleading, at best. They’re simply parroting something they saw on another hater’s blog. Yet they maintain that they are the knowledgeable ones and those supporting Perry are ignorant clods who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time – “ignorant” is an adjective that they like to use a lot.

These ‘major’ undisclosed sources are always convenient. If you can’t name the source, it is because YOU are the source!

So far Perry is being boosted constantly in the press; they’d love to have him as the new McCain.

.
For sure!

MacKinnon is head-up-his-a$$ in love with Perry, and is trying to boost him into Palin’s league with that ridiculous assertion.

Obviously the ‘editor’ is imaginary.

Mac is a total Perry-bot.

To the author: It is not news if you cannot tell us: Who, what, when, where, why, and how. Without the facts, this article is simply rumor. If you know the facts, don’t tease people. I know you gave the fellow’s name, but there could be lots of people with that name. The story, as posted, reads like a convenient hype.

Some of the people you speak of post at FR and are Sarah Palin fanatics. I’ve seen more outright lies about Perry here than I have in any MSM newspaper as of the present.

“trying to boost him into Palin’s league”

Is this where you Murdoch/Rasmussen conspiracy comes into play? That one is a hoot.

Hint - Perry is polling much better than Palin. That’s a fact, and you’ve deluded yourself to think that the polls are some sort of smear campaign against Palin. Truth is, she’s just not very popular with the general electorate in terms of being President. Can that change? I suppose, but your delusional conspiracies involving Rupert Murdoch are a bit worrisome and are flat-out absurd.

Hell, most have forgotten that a number of years ago, the big players got together for a conference up north and decided that it was perfectly ethical for the MSM to deviate from the truth and objectivity if the cause was “good”. Caused a minor stir back then, but the self-same MSM insured it didn’t grow feet - no surprise to see them following the plan.

I’m leaning toward Perry right now, but I agree — such an explosive quote from an anonymous source is meaningless and unhelpful.

Some of the people you speak of post at FR and are Sarah Palin fanatics.

There's a certain element of posters here who believe Sarah Palin is entitled to the Republican nomination, that she can sit on the fence as long as she likes, it doesn't matter because as soon as she throws her hat into the ring the nomination is hers by virtue of being Sarah Palin.

To these people, Perry is a threat because he's picking up support from those who would've been in Palin's camp except not only have they gotten tired of waiting, they've started to question if Palin can actually beat Obama. They've demonstrated a lack of both patience and faith that has angered this element of Palin supporters.

As of now, I'm in the Perry camp. I believe he is the most conservative candidate that can beat Obama. The second part of this statement is very important to me. But make no mistake, if Sarah Palin earns her party's nomination, I will support her enthusiastically.
